My goodness, nursemaggie, what great bargains. Am I right in thinking that the CS may be seeing you more often? I remember that wallpaper, I had it in my bedroom when I lived in my little old cottage and it always looked just right. Sorry that your DS is having blister misery. Can't think of anything worse than being on painful feet all day.
Oooh! Softstuff, I bet you are in the middle of a real packing frenzy. Don't bring too much or you won't have room, or weight allowance, for all those delicious CS bargains.
Islandmaid, a friend of ours in Ryde heard 2 men discussing the wedding of one of their daughters. " She marrying a local lad then?" says one. "Nah," says the other, "he comes from Seaview," (all of 2 miles away).
I'm surprised to hear from you this morning. What unsocial hour does your DD get in?
You must be up to your eyes in it for a few days. When the dust settles we will meet for a doughnut. I will blame the tablet for that blooper. I meant of course, a black coffee.

my Nan, born and bred, had never left the Island her whole life, and apart from a few non negotiable trips to Newport, had spent all her life in Cowes - her whole life was there, never needed to leave
You learn summat every day time...
I'm sitting here now thinking "Is that a dry sense of humour referring to 'a visa' to live on the mainland - or do people living there actually have to have a visa to move to the mainland?"
It literally wouldnt have occurred to me to think in any other way than "I've decided to move to elsewhere in the country - ie the mainland" and fix myself up a place to live in and just go...
Do tell - as I'm very curious...0 -

He is covered in blisters which cost me just under £10 in special plasters. Worth it because they work. I went to the independant outdoor shop for the socks and they cost me £15 a pair.
This shop is near the station, usually when I am up there I am on my way out somewhere or it is well after the shops have shut. There is a charity shop I have never been in before so I had a look in. Got a per uno jumper, heather coloured cardigan Deb*nhams, and a really useful plain navy cardigan all in super condition and quality for £2.50 each and the bargain of the year some really pretty wallpaper with tiny wild flowers (Country Diary) you will know by the name it is quite old. Vim*ra sealed in its original cellophane at only 50 per roll. They had six rolls but I bought 3. I figure as they are dated 1986 they are due back in fashion soon. If I have any left after doing the living room I will use them to line draws. :T
nursemaggie, if you are anywhere near an Asda that sells clothing, they sell packs of "work socks", designed to be worn under boots; they are cheap, warm, hardwearing and very comfortable. Our DS wears them all the time under his safety boots. You could probably buy them from the Asda website if that'd be easier. HTH0 -

All tongue in cheekwe call the mainland 'the north Island', but we accept (almost) all comers
Left airport at approx 8:30, sat at Portsmouth awaiting ferry, just missed 10 am one, DD sleeping on the back seat at the mo, snuck into the fish market to grab a crab and a box of prawns (her fav) to have this week...

MITSTM: take no notice of Islandmaid, it is a favourite pastime for islanders to lull prospective visitors into a false sense of security. Take it from one who knows, sorting out the passport and visa is only the beginning. There is then the matter of injections and vaccinations, medical examinations, malaria pills, financial disclosure, police clearance............ Then you have to run the gamut of customs, health and safety checks and your teeth will be examined to ensure that you have not lied about your age. Before you step on to the ferry make sure that all liquids, toothpaste, hand cream etcetera are in clear plastic bags.
Welcome to the Isle of Wight.
Lilibet: Ignore the above, Islandmaid and I (aka 'The Welcoming Committee) will arrange special clearance for you. We will find a date that avoids the Festival, the Bestival, the Scooter Rally, the Round the Island Race, Walk the Wight, the Garlic Festival and Cowes Week.. Start saving now. The doughnuts are expensive here.
Note to self: Stop being silly and go do something useful.

Do we still need the RABIES jab? or can we get a vet certificate for coverage and a special dispensation to come if we promise not to bite anyone?0

Carry on being silly monna, we enjoy it! The useful things can wait till later.
Just taken DD into Glasgow for work, she stayed here last night as we were at friends for dinner. I took her some balcony pots I planted up and collected her Ike@ returns, took them back and treated myself to a coffee from the blue and yellow emporium - it's actually quite nice coffee.
There's a farmers market on locally and I am deciding whether to walk or cycle? It is a bit showery so not sure which is safest! My next door neighbour has a horse box that has been converted to a coffee bar so I can go sample his coffee.0 -

A packing frenzy :rotfl:monnagran you have me confused with someone more stylish. My suitcase at present has my medication, my 2016 xmas cards to be left with my mother for posting nearer the time and her 70th birthday gift. Aside from that, it'll be empty. No sense wasting good charity shop space. I leave some clothes always at my mothers. It's a mystery to me what's there right now and whether it fits, but there are 3 charity shops within a short distance, so it's not a biggie.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
