I think it's more like Gallons into thimbles Monna. If you remember the sizes for them I used to take a 5 which was the smallest, making those china thimbles people used to collect look positively huge.

My sofa is covered in DS's new uniform. I guess he does not know where to put it. My tiny half cupboard in the kitchen with tins, jars, packets, etc in holds a great deal more than I thought it would. Either that or it's a tardis. I do have to empty it to find things. I shall have to try to find somewhere for his new uniform it's creasing my new curtains I got in Dun*lms sale.

Well I will be 70 on Monday. My cards are lined up on the only place they will fit. Is this the age people start adding a few years not taking them off?

DS was going to take me out to dinner on Monday night but now he is on a late so I have to wait until next Friday. If he asked me what I want for a present I better say a keyboard this one has an awful lot of I s on it.

What a lovely idea Islandmaid! Silvasava often visits there too so she might be able to join you :)

monnagran I hope you were able to get the Brie and the watercress (the bread presumably goes without saying) and enjoyed your lunch :)

Islandmaid: that is a brilliant idea. Mrs LW lives not too far away so maybe she could join in too. Ive always been a bit jealous when i hear of people meeting up......... I was going to say on the mainland but when I referred to it thus when I first got here an elderly man, (I mean even more elderly than me), said very stiffly, "I suppose you mean England." Perhaps we had better warn people to check that their passports are still valid.
In the meantime why don't we meet for coffee one day. Have bus pass, will travel. I have been known to go as far as the metropolis. Only of course after equipping myself with thermos, blanket, torch etcetera, as befits an intrepid traveller going more than 5 miles here. Readers of this thread may not realise that to those born and bred on the Island any trip more than a few miles long is a risky business.

Thank you Ivyleaf. I enjoyed my lunch very much. The watercress was beautifully peppery, which is just as I like it. I felt quite decadent buying something that I wanted but didn't really need.

Nursemaggie: you had better put all your cards on display, it's compulsory on such an important day. Yes, you now go back to childhood days and say, "I'm 70 and 1/4."
I can whisper it to you but I'm 76 and 11/12ths. Got all my own teeth too.

Well, I've suddenly realised that DGD has left my room but cbeebies is still chirping on in the background so I will go and find something more suitable for my grownupedness.

I have been to town looking for good quality walking socks for DS. His shoes the job centre bought him are nearly worn out all ready but his new working boots have not arrived yet, probably because he is a half size.

He is covered in blisters which cost me just under £10 in special plasters. Worth it because they work. I went to the independant outdoor shop for the socks and they cost me £15 a pair.

This shop is near the station, usually when I am up there I am on my way out somewhere or it is well after the shops have shut. There is a charity shop I have never been in before so I had a look in. Got a per uno jumper, heather coloured cardigan Deb*nhams, and a really useful plain navy cardigan all in super condition and quality for £2.50 each and the bargain of the year some really pretty wallpaper with tiny wild flowers (Country Diary) you will know by the name it is quite old. Vim*ra sealed in its original cellophane at only 50 per roll. They had six rolls but I bought 3. I figure as they are dated 1986 they are due back in fashion soon. If I have any left after doing the living room I will use them to line draws. :T
  • Great bargains NM, your poor DS my hubby has problems with blisters too as he's on his feet all day.

Hope you got your brie Monaghan (mind behaved a while, but I've let it have that one ). Cheese and bread is very MSE, but you're doing it wrong if you've not got wine. I wouldn't mind a visit to the IOW too, but not this trip.

Nice bargains NurseMaggie, so looking forward to charity shopping over there. Happy birthday for Monday if I'm not around then. I fly your Monday night.

When I got consent to live on the mainland for a few years, I thought nothing of driving up to London for an evening out, when my visa was revoked, and I had to return to the Island, I soon got back into parochial ways, and now 'tut' if friends plan an evening out outside of the 5 mile acceptable radius :D my Nan, born and bred, had never left the Island her whole life, and apart from a few non negotiable trips to Newport, had spent all her life in Cowes - her whole life was there, never needed to leave :o

As for a meet up I,m happy to :) the more the merrier :D we can kick up our heels at a garden Center or any tea and cake emporium :T
