Hester I've done 2 narrow boat trips, one in October when the stove was never allowed to go out, to the extent that we bough a bag of col and the guys were scavenging wood from the banks and skips! The second was in May, we went out in shorts & t-shirts with blazing sunshine, and came home 3 days later in snow!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I'll not be heading on a boat any time soon, am too worried it'd be like a Jeff Green story:

Narrowboat holiday sounds good to me - I went on one with a friend. We were still friends by the end of it - we just had to accept a "division of labour" meant I did the cooking and lock gates and she did the "driving". My "driving" skills were soon proven to be totally useless a couple of "incidents" later:rotfl:.
It was a good job it was a friendly sort of holiday to have - and other boats would come to our rescue as required:)0 -
Raining again today. I let the cat out at the back door then closed the door into the hall, hoping he'd stay in the kitchen until he'd dried off. It didn't work - he cried to be let in at the front door instead, then as soon as it was opened, he hurtled upstairs sopping wet and I had to chase him with his towel :rotfl:0

Blimey, it's quiet in here today! (And yesterday!)0

I'm still thawing out and catching up with washing and sleep, hopefully I can post something sensible tomorrow, or what passes for sensible from me.Chin up, Titus out.0

Didn't realise I was one of them not here. No experience with narrow boats never been able to afford them.0

OH always used to say he'd love to holiday on a narrow boat, until he realised he was taller than the berths are long0

Slight disincentive then re the "bed " size:rotfl:
We hired a smaller one - so made the lounge seats up into one double bed (not sure how comfortable that turned out to be...). The one in the "cabin" was rather narrow - so it was okay for one person, but I'm not sure how well a couple would have slept in it.
Quite willing to go on a narrow boat holiday again (provided it doesnt become too popular - ie crowded canals) - but I would have to tell my companion/s about that "steering". I think probably car-drivers are able to make a better fist of that than I was and was probably having such problems with that because I'm not used to steering a car (being a non-driver).0 -
Hubby used to drive before his accident, after that he couldn't see well enough to drive so loves being able to steer the boat, though he would have like me to do some of the steering but I refused!
The beds are a bit small but I'm only 4'11 and hubby 5'8 so we managed.
Last night it was wonderful to sleep in a bed with real bedding and not just a pile of coats.
Back to work tomorrow, I will need to discuss the meeting with the SW when I get there, oh joy.
After that I will compose my response. I know they HAVE to put a care plan in place and are just trying to save money by making me do more.
It is a mistake commonly made that because I'm short I'm easily bullied/manipulated, well, it ain't necessarily so.
Like a lot of short people I'm a bu&&er when I'm roused, I once reduced an estate agent to tears when he hadn't done his job properly.
