TBH I would prefer to buy direct from the farmer - i'm sure local producers could jump on the bandwagon and cut out Asdars profit.Potentially this could provide a lot of employment in depressed areas (I know the IoW produces great food Monna but a lot of employment is seasonal) Even if the local greengrocer who sources locally could do the same???
I'm all for enterprise ;) and expect people to make a living but I do think the SM's are in it for the publicity and potential 'add on' sales.
Maybe we ought to make our feelings known to Jamie & Jimmy??

Fuddle - the outlaws will only be with you for a few hours - so breathe, smile sweetly be your usual charming self and think what you like!!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • I think I will regard you both as my "Ladies in Lavender", but you will be Dames Monna and Hester, instead of Maggie and Judi. I understand both those ladies have a wicked sense of humour, - say no more

The asda veg box thing is England only, I would have give that a try if we had it here. Sainsbugs Basics seem to be sort of similar though, you pay a lot less for a few odd sizes and it's def worth it. We are back to dull grey mizzle yet again and no it doesn't feel like spring up here MrsL. Still got the lambing to go and it always snows then.
  • We've just had a bright and sunny very spring like morning but now the sky is leaden and the rain has just started. Back to February methinks!!! Had a super trip this morning with Charlies mum over to Mottisfont Abbey at Romsey where they have a massive display of snowdrops growing wild beside the river, so pretty but they also have at the moment an exhibition of the original 'THELWELL' cartoons, including some of the pony ones with 'Penelope' and some very lovely watercolours that Normal Thelwell painted which are well worth a visit to see. We had a cuppa in the Old Kitchen Restaurant which is in the undercroft of the original Abbey and they have an indoor waterwheel powered by the river test that flows a few meters away that drives a spit in the kitchen in front of a massive old cast iron range, Oh how I'd like to cook on that, such a nice morning and FUDDLE you'll be proud of me, I went into the National Trust Shop and found two of those recycled wool blankets you flagged up to us but the bigger ones that are 130 x 180 cm for just £25 each. They are mega heavy and will be toasty warm on the beds, so pleased with them, well done you for finding them in the first place.

Lyn One of the motifs on our DGS's school badge is a waterwheel, because there used to be a mill in the village. The wheel isn't there any more (the mill became a restaurant, and is now flats) so he thought it was a picture of an electric fan....and tbh the embroidered, slightly stylized motif does look like one!

Mrs LW. We were at Mottisfont in June for the roses. One of my favourite NT houses. We also had lunch in the kitchen. The big centre table was set out with all the old kitchen appliances set out for a course that was going to be run there. Absolutely fascinating.

This weather! I set off to collect Mia from nursery in bright sunshine but I could see that the sky was dark in the distance so put my raincoat on. Just as well because a strong wind blew up from nowhere and we had a few spots of rain before the hail started. Fortunately my DS came by in his van and shouted at me to get back home and he would collect Mia. Phew. Before I got home the hail was whipped up by the wind and felt like shrapnel. It was piled up against the walls like snowdrifts.

We all got home, put the lights on and made biscuits. Making biscuits with Mia is always an adventure, but these were almost edible.

Hope your visitors behaved themselves Fiddle.

I'm not sure that I fancy being a dame. Pantomime springs to mind. I can just see Hester as bawdy dame though. Not me, I'm much too refined.
I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.
  • Lol, Monna, refined, I bet!
I'm not sure I fancy lavender, when I married my ex his mother informed me I should wear a dress with lavender spots as that would be appropriate for soiled goods! Ex & I lived together before we married!
    Chin up, Titus out.

Think that Monna and Hester should be in violet like the suffragettes ( or violent as DGD used to call it!!)
As the sunmade an appearance I pruned my climbing rose - did intend to do some more in the garden but as Monna & MrsL said the weather turned as black as a witches hat and belted down with rain :(
Oh Mardy - my Mum always used to say mizzle too! Just warming some soup up for tea on top of thewoodburner - its the nearest I'll get to a range MrsL !
Have a good evening all xx

  • LIVED TOGETHER Hester, I am shocked:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I was 21 when I told my Mum I was going to live with Himself, and she didn't speak to me for 2 weeks, only to say "what will the neighbours say" and "he won't respect you"

Hopefully we will celebrate our golden wedding next year.

    The 60s was a wonderful time:j:j:j

Oh I didn't kbow they did a larger blanket :D they are lovely Lyn aren't they? :)

Mottisfont was on our list of NT must do but we never got darn it. Never mind. I have the whole of the North to explore now... already been for a lovely walk around Gibside and visted Aira Force in the Lakes since the move so won't grumble.

Visitors behaved beautifully, young and old ;) I am shattered though. I made banana pancakes for breakfast, normal pancakes for all kids at tea time and not long finished a batch of crumpets. I made scotch pancakes for packed lunches along with bacon and leek quiche, jam tarts, cupcakes and cookies for guests. Job done, guests looked after, job role fulfilled. :)

DH brought me.my valentine's present. Yip, 79p charlotte seed potatoes from home bargins. They are chitting.

Full sun tomorrow but chilly but the cold wont put me off digging the weeds from the rest of my raised area for planting. I have tiny seedlings appearing on my windowsill from the brussel sprouts.

Happiness really is pottering for me. :)
