The Garden Fence - help and support in tough times
Comments
-
I am coming to England this year, but will be sorting out my mothers house for a couple of weeks and fixing whatever needs fixing there. The reason I do ok with the house and garden stuff is that I'm a bit of an anal neat freak who gets anxious when things aren't clean and tidy. This even applies to weeds and rocks. Plus I'm too tight to pay anyone to do what I can figure out myself (especially when I'm not working) so I end up having to learn, try and try again.
Just seen an article in the daily mail online about a frugal pensioner with a funky shed, named Ilona. Apparently one of the forumers, raise a hand if it's you, I love the shed (but have no idea what to do with reduced pease pudding).
Yea Ilona's a fantastic character, n has a much more interesting life than the papers made out"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

:DHuh! Greenbee. If it was the middle of the day in Vancover what were you doing on here harrassing folk who were merely enjoying a break from sleeping. You would hae been more usefully employed sightseeing, looking for bargains in strange shops, spreading the mse light in dark places or generally annoying the natives.
See you tonight?

To be fair Monna, it was also dark... I thought I'd catch up on MSE in an attempt to stay awake a bit longer and avoid waking up at 2am and being back asleep again before my last meeting... I'm flying back to the east coast (thankfully Canada still, so no snow issues) tomorrow and I think my jet lag will be pretty much in the right place by then.
Off out to meetings now... I'll be looking out for the insomniacs later while I pack!0 -
Hi there, fellow insomniac. What are you doing in Canada anyway? Or have I missed something? I would have thought you would have been knee deep in snow there.
I'm about to drift off again having had my mid-sleep break and finished a cryptic crossword to pass the time. Good luck with th packing.
May catch up with you later.

Hi Monna, It's only about 7pm here. I'm over for work - Vancouver has rain not snow, and apparently the east coast is warming up for me which I'm pleased about (although there is some snow due tomorrow). At the moment I'm trying to pack, trying to get work done for Wednesday, and chasing the hotel about the damaged laundry (why do hotels ALWAYS manage to damage something? ... usually small holes so you need to inspect stuff really closely).
Luckily I don't travel with anything I care about, and TBH I can probably wear both the cardigan and the t-shirt at least for the rest of the trip, and the sports bra I might be able to mend. ALthough i'm not sure my mending would be up to the strain that gets put on it!0 -
Hope the weather stays kind to you greenbee. There's a gale blowing here this morning and the rain is torrential (the drip through the kitchen window is doing a good impression of a waterfall too!).
monna - get some sleep! I can just about manage to read if I wake in the night but my brain would go into overdrive if I tried to do a crossword.
I got a new job yesterday, the one I have been doing since August. 98 applicants, 7 folk for interviews and they picked me! Must have been doing something right for the past 5 months.
Strange feeling going to a funeral (friend's DM) and feeling like grinning all the way through. I sound a bit heartless but you know what I mean!
Lovely send off for friend's DM, the party was still going on when I left their house at 11.0 -
Morning all.
Greenbee: if the holes in your sports bra are that tiny, why are you bothered? Who is going to notice?
DONT ANSWER THAT.
By my reckoning it must be getting on for midnight where you are so you should have wound down by now. If not, - - -get winding!
Good luck with work today.
Camelot: congratulations on the job. What a boost to your confidence.
I do hope that my funeral is like that. I love to think that people will be swapping silly stories about me, laughing their heads off and partying till the early hours.
After the weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth of course. I'll be expecting a good dose of that.
Now, all you workers..............stir your stumps and get going. We retired people can turn over and listen to the wind and rain from the comfort of our beds.

monna That's what my uncle's funeral was like. We had a lovely family party, and at one point one of his daughters remarked "It's a shame Dad's not here, he'd have enjoyed this!"
Camelot Well done, so glad and relieved you got your job :T
greenbee Have you got more meetings on the east coast, or will you be on your way home very soon? Safe journey
Mrs LW Has Nell had her interview yet?0 -
Hi IVYLEAF yes they were moved back a day so she had them both yesterday. She felt the second interview was better than the first but she's a personality that always sees better in others than herself so she's convinced the job will be offered to an external candidate, I know her better than that and think she's got as much chance as any of the other candidates. We'll have to be patient as the decision is likely not to be made on the appointment for a couple of weeks according to herself and she says if there is a stronger applicant with more to bring to the school for it's development she'll be satisfied to have been shortlisted for interview, apparently they actually had 54 applications in total and she's down to the last 9, pretty good eh?0

Mrs LW: Nell sounds like my sort of person just from what you say about her. I imagine that we will all be crossing our fingers and lighting candles for her until she hears the result.
The sunshine is pouring through the Windows and the wind is howling round the house straight off the sea. Rain is forecast for later on so I must get going and do whatever needs to be done outside while it is still dry.
Little madam has decreed that I pick her up from nursery this afternoon, bringing the pushchair, "in case my legs don't work, Monna". Arms and legs not working is the latest excuse for not doing things like picking up toys, putting on shoes, having hair washed and the like. I try to explain that people whose arms and legs really don't work would love to be able to pick up toys and walk home from nursery but it's a difficult concept for a three yearold.
Just read through and noticed that although I cheated the tablet out of putting a capital letter in front of the great star in the sky it has got its own back with Windows. See? In future they will be referred to as 'panes of glass'.
As if life wasn't difficult enough already.
