Nursemaggie, good luck tomorrow, hope all goes to plan
Greenbee, please don't put all breeders in to the just in it for the money category, we have been breeders for over 19 year , and offer a life time of support, care, know our dogs inside out, what our breed is like in the way of its health issues, nature ..often we re home unwanted dogs , that didn't come from us after we have sorted out problems that have been created by the owner , we never charge for things like this , just happy to sort dog out and find the right owner , ..and if we are selling pups belive me it's not all profit , yes there is some horrid breeders out there ,but not everyone is doing it for the cash . We don't breed until we have enough interest in a litter ,lost count of the number of people we have said no to ,who clearly didn't have a clue as to what they are taking on ,hadn't done there homework, didn't know the breed etc etc etc . Not taking anything away from rescue centres they do a wonderful job but a dog is only as good as what you put in it ,and if it has been ill treated it takes work to help it ,any dog weather it has a top class kc reg or not can have problems ... Sorry will step of my soap box now .....hope I don't sound to harsh that is not my intention .

Sorry burtha - didn't mean to tar all breeders with the same brush. We've always had working dogs, and they come from breeders we know as we need to know there's a chance they can be trained ... But if people are going to use breeders, they need to research them carefully. I'm glad you screen your customers carefully - I see so many situations where the dog isn't appropriate for the owner's lifestyle (bored working dogs) or where people don't make the effort to train their dogs and end up with problem animals.

It's good to know there is someone here who nursemaggie can ask for advice :-)

I can't currently have a dog (or a cat, or even a goldfish really) because my work lifestyle means I'm away too much. I wouldn't want another working dog, much as I love labs and spaniels... I quite like the idea of a Norfolk terrier, but i know they can be a bit of a handful unless carefully trained!

Wonderful news about the bungalow Elona, many congratulations.

Good luck with the move nurse Maggie.

3 hours sleep for me last night with new pup, built a temporary fence in 2 hours during the pouring rain for him, cleaned up his poop, pee.... and am adoring him so much he almost brings me to tears just watching him twitch in his sleep. What a wuss I am :o (not the only one on this thread though!) can't wait to meet the trainer, realising it's us not him that need her most.

Aww Softstuff, it's lovely that you've fallen in love with him :) Though it must be hard to be firm with a bundle of fluff you just want to cuddle! But it will be worth it.

And I'm glad you got at least a bit of sleep.

Ivyleaf: thank you for the candle. I feel that I am being carried along on the prayers and love that surround me. What do people do when they have to cope without loving friends and family? Even I, with all the support I've been given and the blessing of a pragmatic and optimistic nature, have had to resort to some 'mood lightening' tablets.

I am thinking about Nurse maggie and her move today. I hope the weather is kind to her. We have sunny spells and torrential showers here. Torrential showers are the last thing she needs while moving. Ask me how I know? I have moved in monsoons, 3 feet of snow and on the hottest day of the year. Don't know which is worst.

I must now trawl the net for a knitting pattern for a 3 yearold's ballet cardigan. I knitted one for my DGD for Christmas but I didn't really like the pattern -it was a bit bulky. She didn't mind but I did. However when I said that I would knit her a better one she swiftly told my that her best friend didn't have one either, (and that would be 'eye-ther not ee-ther, pedant that I am,) so now I have to knit 2, one befo're Jan24th - best friends birthday. Why does my tablet not let me write 'before'? Well, will you look at that! I tried to correct it 4 times in the line above but it wasn't having it.

It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

There but for fortune go you and I.
