Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Fantastic news elona! Been watching the news and Tadcaster is a mess isn't it?

nursemaggie, All the best to you and your DS in your new home, you've worked so hard to get to where you are, I hope you will be very happy.

Well done Elona. It is so stressful playing a waiting game, i'm glad it is almost over for you.

NurseMaggie, you have had such a long hard road to get where you are I do hope that everything goes smoothly tomorrow. I wish I lived nearer, I would be popping in with a casserole and a cake. In the event we will have to be content with a virtual housewarming.

I walked up to the village-run library this morning in between showers. It is a community affair and run by volunteers. I want to offer my services and can't think of a nicer way to get to know people. They also do story telling for groups of children and telling stories is one of my few talents -the other ones are making pastry and cutting a straight slice of bread . They also have a Pilates class in the community centre on Tuesday mornings that I might try. I've never tried Pilates and I don't like to think that there is anything I haven't tried. Within reason of course, just remember that like Mar I am a quiet, respectable old lady and wouldn't do anything to frighten the horses.

    Great idea Monna!

I joined the village hall keep fit class when I moved here as a way of getting to know people and have made some good friends as a result. Plus it gets me out of the house on Tuesday evenings whatever the weather (the first winter, I used to got to get warm as my heating didn't work and I had no flooring downstairs...). We also have a community cafe that I attend as often as possible (nothing to do with the amazing chocolate brownies... purely to socialise...;)). I'd like to volunteer, but work tends to make me unreliable for regular things (hence not joining any of the many choirs in the village), but I do help with teas for the village fete every year :)

Greenbee: there's nothing like a village community is there.? I amazed at the things that are going on here. The writer is a good time to be here. Being by the sea means that we are inundated with visitors in the summer and the village life goes underground for those months. As it is I have never passed anyone without them speaking to me.
    Fantastic!

Thank you everyone for your good wishes. Monna a cake would be wasted in our house neither of us like them.

The flat is so small it is as well it will be a virtual house party.

DIL has made friends again over Christmas so now I am wondering where I shall put six of us when they visit.

Be even worse when DS gets the dog he wants. I told him he can have one when he gets a job, as long as it is quite small. Apparently corgis are coming back in fashion so that will be OK

NurseMaggie I hope all goes well tomorrow, and that the weather is dry for your move. Good wishes for your new home, will raise a cuppa & biscuit to you both at around 3pm for the virtual housewarming party!

Agreed - it's roughly half a mile into the village, so takes about 11-12 minutes in theory. In practice it can take up to an hour as there are frequently lots of people to stop and chat to... sometimes I just have to make my excuses as I have to get back for work, but mostly it's nice :D

Nursemaggie - corgis may be coming back into fashion by they're not the nicest tempered dogs. In any case, rather than paying a breeder you'll probably do better looking for a rescue. They'll have an idea of the dog's temperment as they'll have spent time with it, and what's suitable for your home and lifestyle.
