Mrs VP - when DH's cast came off he said he had a leg and a stick. I think the worst thing was all the dry skin that came off after the plaster was removed -yuk!
Do hope you'll be back to your normal self soon

    Morning all,

Mrs VPYou must be relieved that your leg is healing and to have a WM again!

On flat-bottomed ice cream cones, they usually sell them in Mr. T, I bought some last year--I think I paid less than £1 for 24 although they were discontinuing the cheaper range. I hadn't thought of using them as seed starter pots.

Parsniphead it is nice to see you! I, too, was intimidated by the way some people seem able to remember and respond. It is a bit easier now that I know enough about individual posters to have a bit of story to go along with their name, but I try not to worry too much about forgetting someone as I know some know each other in person or from other threads or facebook so they aren't likely to get lost.

OH and I have set aside an hour this evening to go through a few more exam questions. I have a meeting to discuss what else I need to do to prepare later this week, so starting to feel my nerves a bit more. I think I'll leave off new questions today and concentrate on writing and reading. The exam is still about three weeks off, but it seems more real now, iyswim. The weather is grey and we have rain forecast for the rest of the week so I'll think carefully about the washing. Tea will be leek risotto as we had the aubergine pasta last night since OH volunteered to cook. He is still full of cold but seems to be getting a bit of his energy back.

Apart from my exam and a couple of other things planned well in advance, May will be a quiet month for us. In the mean time I'm trying to nurture my seedlings and work on sewing projects.

Glad you've got the cast off Mrs Veg Plot I'm sure your leg will soon get back to normal once you're able to walk properly. pleased to her you now have your new washing machine. It must have been particularly hard to manage without it while you had the cast on

candlelight about the scrolling down from the Reply box to see recent posts....I don't know if it works in the new format of the forum and daren't try to find out in case I can't get back to the old one :o

Pops Your poorly friend is so lucky to have you :)

Wondercollie Thanks for the tip about planting in ice cream cones - I'm sure I've seen the flat-bottomed ones in one of the supermarkets.

Lyn I hope Docky had a nice birthday :)

I have a pansy plant my grandchildren gave me on Mother's Day and it's on the kitchen window ledge (the only proper window ledge in the house, and it faces North :( ) I think it can go into the garden now, but apparently it needs to be hardened off before I plant it out. I'll put it out in a sheltered corner at the front presently and bring it in tonight, and will do that for several days/nights before leaving ti out 24/7 for a week or so, as advised by Churchmouse - some of you will remember her, she used to be a regular poster on the Daily thread but is more often on FB now. We met up for coffee and lunch yesterday and as usual couldn't stop talking :)

Mar it sounds as if that hill you live on has a climate to rival Eeyore's Gloomy Place in the Southeast corner of the Hundred Acre Wood! I hope you're snug inside, maybe with a hot water bottle?

The sun is shining but it doesn't seem particularly warm outside and it seems quite blustery(TBH its not particularly warm indoors either 14c/58f)but an extra layer of clothing helps*, as does a hot drink or two)Funnily enough we always used to think our home was cosy and warm. I think it was less expensive to heat when we were using an open fire/coke CH.

Now its gas and we've been modernised with double glazing and cavity wall insulation I actually think the house seems colder and it stops the house heating up when the sun shines into the rooms and if its cold it seems to be trapped. Gas CH seems more expensive to run.

I hope it soon becomes warmer for all of us. Maybe we feel the cold more the older we get  I know when I am out late in Durham City occasionally I am often surrounded by people with hardly a stitch on.

Perhaps its something to do with where I live on the town...a couple of streets away because in recent years they've built a large car park and a big Tesco's there is nothing to break up the surroundings and sometimes when you head out to the shops you get blown away so perhaps its affected properties that are nearby.

Mar is not letting on she is Mrs Christmas really she lives at the north pole.

The difference is about right for rural and a big city. All the big buildings retain heat and raise the temperature of a city.

If you have an unheated porch ivyleaf that is a good place to harden off plants. It is a cooler place to put them over night. We have been having frosts this week I don't know about you.

Nurse Maggie Good idea that about the porch. You've mention the "C" word:p

Seeing that you have...I let Christmas go a bit but the family/parents of my special needs friend have the last couple of years invited me around for my Christmas meal so I haven't spent it alone.

And in January I found so many decorations, tinsel, lights, trees reduced by such a lot of money. I purchased a fair bit and though there is only myself I hope to make an effort and decorate a tree but I haven't decided whether to put it in the hall, lounge or because I'll probably be upstairs more, I may put it in the corner of my bedroom where at least I'll see it.

If I can find a way to cover it so it doesn't get dusty(and hide it away somewhere)perhaps I can avoid having to redecorate it every year and just bring it out already done.

Hello everyone :) I haven't been on here since March I see. I am busier these days which is so nice, but I have not forgotten you lovely folk on here. It has been very cold indeed since a few days ago, and believe for me anyway that as I am getting older I cannot bear the cold, like I used to. I have been sorting out clothes books etc. for the charity shop so they came and took away (British Heart Foundation) two big bags on Monday, and it feels good to have done a sorting out I also tidied out three drawers in the kitchen units today, happy with that. I am going to my wee craft group in the morning and still knitting at night for a few hours watching t.v We do miss our little companion so much, and think of him often. Our little pets get deep into our hearts don't they? We often think of something funny he has said :) and we feel blessed to have had him as long as we did have. It is lovely to read some of the posts here this afternoon, but impossible to catch up with all of them :) I will pop in and out though :) xx Margaret
