Thanks Mrs L and Candlelight, Remarkably, on my table last week(usually we rarely break even over the year and prizes are quite small)The two ladies I was with won. One won two houses(worth £30 each)The other won one house and £35 by guessing which number would be the last called on a bingo flyer. So a good night for them.
I did break even the following afternoon at a social bingo group and won £4 which cancelled out the money I paid for my books.
I know that I sometimes sound a bit miserable but 95% of time I am honestly happy and do count my blessings. I too believe that I have come a long way. Inside I really am and always have been happy though inside I am sensitive and am thoughtful."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Pops, we all can feel a bit miserable sometimes, but you are doing fine
Take care

Evening all,
Just a quick one. I've mostly got the collar back on, just need to finish stitching down the binding and mitre some corners. Ivyleaf You put it so kindly, calling it patience. I consider my main (perhaps only!) natural talent to be stubborn-ness. It does help that it is still far too cold to wear this dress. By the time I get it finished I can start making the pattern up in a heavier fabric during the summer.:D
Pops we all have our good days and bad, and both are made better by sharing. It sounds like a lovely service, and I hope your enjoy your social time.
Bit of good news, the LL has only increased rent by £10/month. The house is technically a bit below market value even with that increase, but given he had a quick look over the property and said "You're really looking after it very well" I think he wants to keep us for a bit. He has also agreed to look into repairing the fence between us and the neighbor with THE guests.
We had a brown rice and vegetable dish for tea. It was..edible. A bit..how shall I explain? 1970s health-kick-ish? I don't mind health food--some of my best recipes are technically 'health food' but it didn't exactly make the best of the flavours mother nature has to offer. I don't think I'll make it again. Never mind, as OH says "you have to try things." Tea is a slice of homemade plain cake with a bit of the Raspberry coulis preserve OH brought me from Normandy. I can't wait to try it.0 -

Shegar no the kelp isn't doing anything although I'm going to finish the bottle. This flare up is the worst I've had in 10 years, just isn't going to go away at all. In the nice sunny weather I was just lying out the back on the lounger, that was nice, listening to the birds and lambs - but now this cold is like winter back. Hope it doesn't last.0

Well we have just had an inch of snow fall this evening in less than an hour:eek: and to think it's almost May.
Pops glad your day went well but sorry your mum was called by the wrong name
Mar hope you feel better quickly and that it gets warmer for you soon
FPK sounds like you must be keeping house in good condition for the LL to put the rent up by so little well done.
Away to take dog out then wrap up and watch some TV take care all xx0 -
Shergar: It's funny but true. We had a good sized back garden the first time we lived in this city. When the husband got posted to Vancouver Island, the house we wound up buy there had a very small back garden, no lane between houses, so the back neighbour was right there. When he was posted back, we knew where we wanted to live. The realtor thought I was mad when I said I wanted the west side of a specific street (streets here run for miles). Because we back onto a main highway, the lots are very long. We have over 125 feet from the kitchen door to the back fence and then there is another 60 feet of city owned tree'd land behind us to the road. The house across the street in front of us has only 45 feet of backgarden. They all cost within $40K of each other, so it made sense to get the bigger bit of land. The realtor didn't know this because he didn't work much in this area. When he looked into the back garden, he just said "it's not a yard, it's a park". Our neighbours have gazebos and hottub houses out in their. We just have lawn and trees and a couple of seating areas.
We aren't rich, just very careful and knew which houses have the plots of land.
I wound up working overtime last night as the nurse meant to work called in sick. Second month in a row she's done it. It was a long night, the other nurse is great but we had two patients who were just nasty. One was discharged home yesterday but the homecare service can't take him on until Monday, so his surgeon sent him to our ward because they wanted his bed for somebody who needed it and we had spare beds. He did nothing but ring the call bell all night, Ice Water, extra blankets, walk me to the toilet. Uhm, you are fit to go home, his bed was only ten feet from the toilet. Meanwhile we had a little boy with quite a serious injury that needed our specialists and we were trying to get his emergency surgery sorted out and then a transfer to the local children's hospital afterwards. The other painful patient is what we call a social admission that we've been stuck with for over a month. He refused to leave when discharged as he's homeless. Has a huge criminal record, is nasty, and verbally abusive. Rumour has it he's being evicted this week.
We just keep chanting under our breath, the H on the roof stands for hospital not hotel.
There was frost this morning when I was driving home but it's up to 16 now. We had flurries on Friday. Thursday it was 22C.
No clue what is going on weatherwise here.
Hope the week will be good for all0 -
Oh, seeding tip. Do you have flat bottomed ice cream cones, or only the pointed ones?
You can start seedling in them, they don't melt and you just plant the cone in the ground and it biodegrades.0 -

I think sometimes because generally we can't see facial expressions and can't always use emoticons(?)what we say can misread. Even on a phone you have vocal tones to work from. There's unhappy/concern/worries and the "Real" depression. I agree about sharing and its nice when you find someone who is willing to share someone's load. So thanks to those on here who do.:)
My rent if I was paying full(and I will be for the immediate future)has increased around £4-£5 per week(social as opposed to Private LL)so if that private LL not knowing what the rent is already in comparison that seems OK?
I've been having rice as with some dishes lately(not something I have done too often I must admit)but I agree about trying something different and I am more adventurous these days but I have gone back to a lot of simple dishes I remember from childhood. Tasty but easy.
Luck did come my way tonight and...I blew it! My two companions won again(three houses between them)I was so busy paying attention to two of the three bingo cards I was playing I won and missed it.
I did win a domino card but as only one side was being used I won £10 so for the night I was £2 out of pocket. Had I won the house too I'd have been £12 in pocket. I realised very quickly but not before the next number was called. The amount spent covers a couple of cheap drinks, a taxi there and back(and a few other little games)chickens11 wrote: »Pops ...You say your washer is in the dining room , how do you get on to use it because surely its not connected up to the drains and water supply..?..

Id've liked the washer and tumble drier in the outhouse probably but its not adapted for taking a washer(water)but private houses in my road have done the room out and turned them into something nice with carpets/linoleum, curtains etc...but my washer is the kitchen/fridge freezer but the T Drier is the dining room and near a window so I can put the hose out easily. Suppose I could move it into the outhouse as there are power points. If I get the right freezer it could go in there too.
Then again I'm lucky in that I don't use the dining room much and when the doors are closed to the kitchen or dining room, I don't hear them going through their cycles. And certainly not if I am upstairs which I often am. And unlike a family that uses them daily mine are usually only on a couple of times a month.
I keep saying I'm throwing rubbish out but often its stuff I cannot quite decide what to do with. Maybe I'll invest in some cabinets that I can store it in so its tidy and the H Association cannot complain because its hidden away. Not seen as hazard but I really have cleared clutter away and I'm not replacing it.
I have however, increased(though mainly charity bought)my range of clothes, I could stop now TBH, I counted up how many shirts I have yesterday(short sleeved and long sleeved and it came to 27!!!)
Surprising since living on my own how my bills have gone down , and a lot of stuff in the home dont get used , time for a massive sort out I think, its not clutter or junk so I'll probably put it on freecycle for somebody who needs good stuff but cant afford to buy....
I think in reality my utility and foods bills have reduced but perhaps with income reducing its harder to believe that they have. I read an article in a magazine suggesting that living alone you spend perhaps 25% more annually than when you share costs with someone else but I don't know if that's true.
Drs appointment tomorrow to get results from my recent blood tests and ECG on the heart , my heart as gone into irregular heart beat again.........
I have loads of operations on one thing another then something else goes wrong, cant win can we as we start to get older.......
Wishing you well for tomorrow...and of course what you say is right, I still have to say "Yes" to an op I should get fixed. And should I get the mobility scooter/stairlift that hopefully will keep me at home with some independence for a while yet.
Mar...Are the sea kelp helping you this time .?, this time last year we couldnt stop you , you were so well.....
I have Kelp tablets I take, I have no idea if they help, I may continue them and I do also take a multivitamin/mineral, garlic capsule, fish oil capsule daily but they don't harm me either so why not!
I had to put the heating on tonight for a while as the temps dropped off at tea time ......Where as the weekend gone?...
All for now Sheila .....
Seems OK since I have come home but after this afternoon being nice and sunny, it has taken a turn for the worst and it was chilly tonight when I came home...windy too. Still too early to be sure of decent weather, we still get a surprise.
