  • Hiya all

I had to smile Summerlady - years ago someone gave me a 'finally get yourself organised' type book. I read it and then faithfully divided all my activities into categories (a-D) and allocated a time to em! by the time I sorted this all out I was running late and still rushing round like a headless chicken!! :-)

Best advice ever - dont think about it - do it now! Never touch post or bills more than once (for example) pick it up off the doormat - write the cheque and envelope - file the bill - put envelope by your car keys to post when next you go out!

I also do the 'while the kettle boils' one - while the kettle bolis you cant really get 'into' the TV programme or book (or you ll have to re boil that kettle - very non MSE) so you can: dry up dishes; put washing out; empty bin; write that cheque etc

Having said all that I am left gasping at how much you folks get done! What an inspiration you all are. Am gonna put my arras into gear tomorrow and see how much 'round 2 it' stuff I can clear! I will report back ASAP!

I do like the 'while the kettle boils' idea - the kettle is on here at least every hour so some serious 'stuff' could get done. I need to inventory my freezers (1 indoors and 2 in the garage) I freeze a lot of my garden produce but I'm finding I'm freezing more than I'm using :) esp apples & plums so need to get them used up PDQ & have a plan for this year.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I spent most of last week feeling dreadful (sinus infection :(), but the antibiotics had taken effect by Friday and I actually felt like DOING something over the weekend, rather than just curling up and sleeping. Over the weekend I have:
    1. given the hob a long-overdue clean
    2. de-limescaled the shower hose so the water now goes down the pipe rather than all over the floor
    3. hoovered the hallway and bathroom
    4. washed a batch of towels
    5. put out a bag of rubbish that had been sitting around all week

OK, it's not fantastic, but it's a start! I'm back at work today, but intend to cross off a few other niggly jobs tonight:
    1. refill the windscreen wash on my car, so I don't have to keep washing the windscreen with a bottle of water
    2. throw the pile of junk mail by the front door into the recycling bin, and put down a wicker hamper to hold future piles rather than dropping it on the floor
    3. throw away the pile of spent matches from lighting my scented candles, and put out a pot to hold them in future

And now I really must go and do some actual work... :o
Back after a very long break!

    Debt-free and Proud!
I had a fairly productive weekend.

Managed to get all the washing done (line dried too :) ) and ironed.

After a mad cooking session, the freezer is once again full of meals for the next few weeks.

Finally managed to drag Hubby out of the house for a walk.

May have undone my good work last week by eating and drinking a bit too much this weekend but back to being good today.
  • The "while the kettle boils" is a good idea. I empty and reload the dishwasher, tidy my worktops, make up a salad and all sorts of mini jobs. I had a good sort out of the kitchen a few days ago and since then most of my cleaning has been done while the kettle boils (or while I'm cooking).

CCP - if you can do so much when ill, you could take over the world when you feel well again.
I completed my "habits" yesterday and finished my to do list apart from the ironing. I have meals sorted for the rest of the week now.

    Todays list (already started)

Habits - exercise, water and sewing
    Work
cleaning and mop kitchen and bathroom floors, laundry for business (I must check the electricity usage for my accounts).
    correspondence and e-mails
    deliver leaflets for charity group
sort out some books to sell - they relate to a course I have finished, also some computing books

    Meeting this evening

it looks quite a lot when I write it down but I have already made a good start.

    Just discovered this thread.

I think I may have written this instead of you OP. This is me to a tee.

I have sooooo many things I need to sort out too.
    1) Lose weight and start exercising again.
    2) Totally de-clutter this house whilst keeping on top of everyday jobs.
    3) Keep up to my mam/wife duties and work duties.

That list seems little, but there are so many "sub-categories" within it. For eg, under de-clutter I need to do the mammoth ironing pile, sort out every single kitchen cupboard, sort the freezer out, Under lose weight, I need to batch cook meals and create a diet plan.

I need to write a daily task list. I work from home, and try to do 4hrs a day. However, instead of just doing those 4hrs straight, I stop and start, and wander about or look at other sites; 4hrs ends up being 7hrs sat at the computer (but only being paid for 4). Then I will sit down on a night time and do nothing, but moan that I don't have enough time in the day. I like the sound of the kettle idea - however I would just not put the kettle on and die of thirst if it stopped me from having to do any tasks ;)

I will read this thread with interest.
  • Please can I join?

I basically need a kick up the bum! I am lazy, lots to do but just can't be bothered. The thing is I do want to change, but I am just in such a rut I can't get myself out of it.

Once DD is home from school, then I can potter about and get things done, same when DH comes home. But during the day I spend time on the pc and sleep :o (very ashamed about that!).

Anyway I plan to set myself some daily goals to try and kick start my productive life.

Thanks to OP for starting this thread, it is just the right one for me.

Mrs P - don't be ashamed of sleeping - either your body needs it or perhaps you have something underlying - maybe lack of iron? Just a suggestion.
I've been invited to a 90th BP on Thursday so need to make something to take - will do something sweet & something savoury. I usually go to a yoga on a Thursday but swapped it for tonight instead. Glad I made the effort - nearly CBA!
Crossed everything off my list today - don't do that very often but there's quite a few things to go on for tomorrow & the rest of the week :(

Well, today woke up to sunshine which always makes me feel better! So today I:

Showered; wrote bill cheques (while kettle boiled for breakfast cuppa!); did 3/4 hr yoga/physio exercises;weeded pots in the garden and pulled some errant clumps of grass up; read book for 3/4 hr; went to the bank and paid in cheques; had an hours walk with my friend; did an hours work with a client; made HM meal (both lunch and evening - joy is that lunch (Chinese rice) will also do tomorrow's lunch) did lots of tidying bits while food was cooking etc.

V proud of myself - given as I did v little on Sun! Thanks for the inspiration folks :A

Mrs P - i often seem to need a 'power nap' during the day - I suffer from arthritis, so today for example, after doing me little bit of gardening my back was aching so I lay down on the floor and had a nap - I have trained myself (over several years) to put radio 4 on and to wake up when the hourly pips go. Then I make myself get up off floor and do next task. dunno if this is of any use to you but that is how I cope.

  • Thank you both for the comments.

I have had a blood test recently and nothing showed. I have always needed to have a nap but they seem to have extended. I like the Radio 4 idea. I listen to Radio 4 most of the day so that would be a great idea, maybe not the floor bit!, but possibly the sofa rather than my bed.

Not a great start to the day as it is pouring with rain but I intend to be more productive. So my list:

Collect Kondo book that is on reserve at the library
    Deposit money in bank
Print letter and take into work
    Do leaves
Post letters for DD to cousins
Do 1 hour of course work
    Collect work from KA
Do 2 hours of BK work.

Will add as necessary but these are the essentials.

    Have a good day x
