Hello, I use a timer too. It's the one on my phone. I also use it to remind me to get on and do something, e.g. 30 mins on computer/reading etc.

I don't use a timer, perhaps I should but one thing I do is race the kettle. Its surprising what can be achieved in such a short time.

I have already done the months shopping and have a months worth of meals planned. I'm determined to get organised.😉

  • Some great ideas for fitting lots in to small amounts of time.

    Plan for today:
Errands - I only need a couple of items so I'll walk to the nearest supermarket.
Post office to send a birthday parcel.
Some work for one of my committees - a job I've been putting off for weeks (months) so today I will at least get started.
    Clean bathroom.
Out this evening so I won't get anything done from 6pm.

Soup on for lunch (and many lunches) dinner prepped, budget updated.

I've been pottering this morning so I'm off to get my shower now. I will make the effort and properly style my hair afterwards.

Well I didn't get through my list yesterday - in fact I don't know what I achieved.

I'm going to have another go at yesterday's list today.

(I did blow dry my hair so I suppose I achieved something)

I make myself do a task every hour, dishes or empty a bin etc. It isn't much but it has helped me sort my house out from a tip that I hid from family to not being embarrassed to open the door any more.

Take baby steps and you will get there.

Summerlady, I used to work away from home all week and return home at the weekend, so during the week I was living alone, which, if I've read correctly you also do. Here's a tip that worked so amazingly well for me in those circs:

After a 10 hour day (8-6), then dog walking followed by and a quick trip to Waitrose (dog accompanied me to work), I used to settle down for a bit of telly. Every time an advert came on I did my own version of the advert boogie and would tidy one room (dishes, kitchen floor - back to programme - bedroom - back to programme, etc). As I was never in my accommodation at the weekend all chores had to be done after work. It worked really well for me and continues to do so, but sadly only when I'm alone in the home for some reason.

We've had some really good tips for squeezing tasks into small pockets of time. I've been trying them as I can.

Today has been a day of appointments - I had a GP appointment first thing, then took my sister to her exercises. It was over the other side of town so I stayed; then did some shopping on the way home. All told it took over 4 hours, and she needs two sessions a week so I am going to try to find myself an exercise class nearby on both days. Otherwise I simply sit reading until she finishes.
Since I got home I've had lunch, put a load of laundry in and fell asleep on the sofa!!
I've updated my inventory of stores and my spending diary/budget, and checked my bank statements.

Off to get a snack, then put away the last lot of laundry.
I have slimming world this evening and I like to stay to group so I won't get much else done.

Just time for a shower when I get back from SW. I will moisturise and blow dry my hair as a start to a new me (I've not kept to the SW plan recently so I know I'll have put on weight).

    Plan for Thursday:
Paperwork for one of my groups (yuk)
Wrap and post parcel, write and post letters.
Write a piece about an event we held, and one coming up, for local newssheet and local website.
Collect and sort out materials and equipment for craft group
Craft group then take everything back to stores.
Phone calls to sort out an exercise class, or two, for me.
    Some tidying and cleaning.
Meals are prepared so I just have to heat, eat and clear away.

    Hi summerlady and folks

Well summerlady, when I read your post it sent me scurrying to a note book from last year - and what I had written was almost identical to your list.

I spent a lot of my life beating myself up about what I hadnt done. My Mum used to say to me 'Footprints in the sands of time are not made by sitting down!' Bless her she was trying to help me with my Manyna attitude to life!! One day I got cross and responded 'Yep but but my backside makes a bigger impression!':rotfl: To give her credit - she did laugh!

I would like to say what I have done to improve my life - firstly baby steps; two - accept that you will have good days and bad days - this is a lifetime habit we a trying to reverse here; three - forgive yourself; four - dont try to be perfect - perfect is boring and perfect people are a right PIA!! Tbh!!:)

Practically; trick one - while the kettle boils (you can - put out the washing/dry up dishes/ put out the rubbish/ do the recyling/file that carp away) trick 2 - while the adverts are on (which are people trying to part you with your hard earned dosh!) do similar things to the above (I wash up during the ads in the Wr!ght stuff as I dont work in the mornings - saves on the expensive light bulbs in the kitchen!!) trick 3 - use your telly time - I do yoga exercises every am for at least 45 mins while watching above mentioned tv prog - I paint my nails - put on hand cream - Im not good enough to knit while watching telly but some can - do mending - ironing etc. Trick 4 - look carefully at the telly schedules - choose a programme or film per night or a soap + one other. Then TURN THE TELLY OFF - come on here - phone a friend - and with lighter evenings coming garden potter in the quiet and twilight. Trick 5 - schedule a task a day - so for me Tuesday is cleaning day - Friday is shopping day etc Then if it doesnt get done on that day - other than essential hygiene and food to eat it doesnt matter - it can wait till next week!!

I am not perfect - I dont always get it right - but life is HUGELY better since last year. Good luck on your journeys folks! I will pop on here again :)
