Can I ask where you live that a full time TA earns 20k? I'm a level 3 TA paid pretty much the average in Hertfordshire and I do 18.75 hours a week, so half full time. If I was full time, ie paid 37 hours a week for 39 weeks a year , I'd only earn around 15k, although the equivalent proper full time (37 hours/52 weeks a year) comes in at just over 20k.
You do tend to get a little more for 1 to 1 work as obviously it's trickier in many ways. Even our HLTA (certainly not a nursery nurse as someone stated!) "only" earns around 18.5k, but she does 32 hours full time, which seems to be the maximum you can work in a school (unless you do pre/after school clubs too)
I'm politely trying to say double check the wages you're quoting are not the full time 52 weeks a year wage which gets pro_ratered down, May be a shock!0
