I've had the email invite after registering my interest, but may not be able to take it up - I didn't expect to still be in work at the moment (looming Local Government cuts) but I am, so I have only a small amount of spare tax allowance as I'm earning £9800 per year.
Is it possible to apply for this in the future (say another year perhaps) as it may be quite likely that I will be made redundant? My husband has a small occupational pension but it is just above the personal allowance so it could be useful for us- but not just yet...

I earn more than the personnel allowance but my wife does not work...... can I claim her allowance....
nowhere does it mention either partner has to be in work....
look forward to your posts.... GAF

As long as your wife is earning less than the £10,600 personal allowance which if she doesn't work is clearly the case, and you are not in the 40/45% tax bands on your income SHE, not you, can apply to transfer the 10% from her unused allowance to yourself.

If you google "marriage allowance" there is a load of info out there.

I got the magic email but seem to have deleted it! Tried to register again but sight told me I was already registered. What's the address for the online application anyone please.

The link in the e-mail is personal to you so ring 03002003300 and on the prompts state marriage allowance and tell them you could not verify your ID. They will then do it over the phone.

Unfortunately if you are a civil servant, the online verification doesn't work and when you try the number they are unable to access your records as you're a civil servant! Awaiting a call back from someone who knows how to sort it :-(

Silly question, but have you checked your 'trash' file?

Finally got my revised tax code in the post this morning. They are using the suffix letter "M" presumably to signify that marriage allowance is included?

It's so that they can give you the correct code next year, PA +10%.
The only thing that is constant is change.

The person receiving the 10% is given a tax code suffix 'M', and the person transferring it gets suffix 'N'
