hmmm....still haven't found out if to qualify you have to be a basic-rate taxpayer and/or have a salary of under 42385. Pension scheme contributions make me basic rate, but impending rise will put salary a couple of quid over 42385....anyone found out yet??

You HAVE to pay tax at no higher than basic rate, forget £42385 that is from gov.uk and is misleading.
If you pay any tax at 40% or higher you don't qualify.
You could increase pension payments to take you out of HR tax.
The only thing that is constant is change.

I've been confused by that too! My husband earns less than £42385 but the recent change in his company car means that he will pay higher rate tax on about £1 a year ... which means they will take my tax allowance back off him, I guess.

He didn't get to choose his car with this employer and he's never paid higher rate tax before, so we had no reason to think when we applied that he would not be eligible.

What is the phone number to ring to speak to someone about this please? Might give it a month and ring if I've not heard anything from them.
I'm stressed enough over this - please don't add to it.

Start a private pension, make a capital contribution towards the car, take a voluntary pay cut.

After getting an email asking me to apply, I went online and tried, got to the end and it came up that they couldn't process it. So I phoned the tax office, explained what had happened, and he did it for me there and then! Got a letter a few days later confirming the tax code change, happy days! :)

Wife got her email today, tried the link and it doesn't work. So we have to phone up, which means she (who hates doing things over the phone) will have to persuade them to talk to me.

Should be such a simple process!

We applied pretty much as soon as you could and only just heard.
