Not sure its down to service cuts - the website is still trialling and there must be hundreds of phone calls so they would try to filter them. At least it seems everything is dealt with promptly when you do get through.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

It makes no difference which number you call or what you say - if you haven't had the magic email they won't handle it.

And all this is down to public service cuts - thanks Cameron.

Not sure what your point is; my reply was to LS16 who has received the, as you put It "magic email", in an effort to help a newbie.....................

So after my problems online & frustration on the phone yesterday I rang HMRC this morning at 8.20. Managed to negotiate the auto prompt, just saying Marriage Allowance (thanks harz99) when asked for a brief description of why I was calling. After a few basic questions (name,DOB,NI number etc) I got through to an adviser. Do say you've had an email, if you have of course! A couple more questions including husband's name & NI number & it was done! I was so surprised I asked if that was all there was to it!!

So don't give up or be put off. It's our entitlement. If the online verification doesn't work (I was told it's a new system with a few teething problems!!!) just phone up but do it early. Give brief answers to the auto prompt & hopefully you'll get to speak to a real person without waiting ages & clocking up a big phone bill! It does happen!!

Great, glad it went well and to have maybe been of some help.

You know, I really wish some of the other posters on these forums would butt out with their silly comments, and stick to actually helping each other!

Energy Saving Champion I've been Money Tipped!
Finally got my invite from Hmrc today I registered with them midApril so they appear to be working through their lists
From reading earlier posts they must have improved their sytem, as I don't have passport or picture driving licence.
Having ticked boxes to confirm that I did not have either document, I was then given the option of a simple form of registering which I followed, asked for my NI No and spouses then all done.

Only gripe I had was that they asked for my mobile number to send a validation number in order that I could proceed, due to the fact that I only use the darn thing about twice a year I had difficulty in even finding the thing!!

I know before you say it I should really join the the new tech. age but remember "If ignorance is bliss, it's folly to be wise"
Any way job done and believe me for those who are still waiting, if I can do it so can you.

Getting slightly concerned now. I note some people registered mid April and have now received invite email. I registered mid March and I am still sat waiting for the golden ticket email.

With you on that - we registered in February and have still heard nothing apart from acknowledgment and excuse emails. This is an utter shambles, whatever HMRC might like to pretend.

I registered in Feb & only got my "golden" email last week. I guess they're getting busier now that more people know about it. Hopefully you'll hear soon. Keep the faith!!

My husbands salary can vary as he gets different bonuses each month. He earns roughly 40k with bonus. He won't know until the end of the year how much he will earn. So would it make more sense to apply at the end of the year when we know if he eligible.
I don't think I will be earning more than 5k so would be happy for him to get my allowance.
