RAC: Millions in private parking fines 'charged illegally'

Also on 5 Live around 0715. They had an IPC weasel on, missed the start of it.
He spoke out of his backside. The barrister/legal person employed by the RAC came across as reasonable and dignified. The IPC bloke spouted the same old nonsense as the PPCs normally do. GPEOL was quoted by the lawyer and the IPC conveniently ignored it and was not pressed on the point by the presenter. Did Humphrys et al rip them apart on Radio 4?0 -
I wonder how the owners of the park car parks are going to re-pay the people who paid the invoices.Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

My local BBC radio Station (Radio WM) had Will Hurley on just before 10.00am. I'll put a link up when available.
Unfortunately, the presenter is from the 'play Devils Advocate to get the calls in' school of broadcasting e.g. "play by the rules or pay up", so it was difficult for him to change sides and challenge Hurley. He did push on charges being for disproportionate amounts and managed to get the word "detterent" out of him.0 -
Well I woke up this morning, heard the news and experienced a feeling of joy but also wonder.
In Jan this year I was served a CC claim from the wonderful PE regarding an overstay in October last year. I extended the time to respond by acknowledging and submitted a defence earlier this week (the deadline for my defence). Number 1 point on my defence was..............GPEOL.
I admit I overstayed but was a paying customer the whole time working from the onsite coffee place (reluctant to give too many exact details away) and purchasing coffees there. I argued that as a paying customer I shouldn't have to pay the fine at all but conceded that as I overstayed I would happily pay a reduced amount.
Will be interesting to see what they do now as they have 7 days to reply to my defence (either by negotiating or issuing to court) or the issue will be stayed. Anyone have any idea what they may try and do?
The car park I overstayed in is a free car park and no way of paying if you overstay. I also had never noticed the signage going in to the car park and on checking since then I feel the signs are too high to notice unless you look for them.0 -
To get specific advice you need to start your own thread (you have inadvertently hijacked this one)
