I've just had a contact lens exam (for anyone going for one soon, DO NOT got to Vision Express for this!) and have an up to date prescription, and so now I am looking for the right lenses on getlenses.co.uk. Below is one of my old lenses, which I got in Australia whilst travelling, and seeing as lenses are often the same but just branded differently, I aws wondering if anyone could tell me the best match from the webite: http://www.getlenses.co.uk/contact-lenses/torics-for-astigmatism.html

From what I understand the best match is the Biofinity Toric lenses; can anyone tell me otehrwise? Cheers

As far as I understand the law, the only thing that can be dispensed to you are the lenses specified on your up-to-date prescription. What does this say?
  • Hello there,

I have quite dry eyes and so I need moisturising lenses. My optician recommended Sauflon Clariti 1 day and so long as I don't wear them every day, I am finding them to be quite good. However they are really pricey so I thought I'd try to buy them online but I'm struggling to even find a supplier that sells them online.
Does anyone wear these lenses (or similar but equally moisturising types)? If so, where's the best place to buy them from?
Am I better off signing for one of the major retailer's contact lenses schemes or buying online?

Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks,

    Jayne :-)
  • Hi Ive signed up to a health cash plan and am going to opticians, dentist and chiropodist this month to get the most out of it before cancelling...

Anyone know which opticians can give me a copy of my prescription and contact lens assessment as soon as it is confirmed? Last time, I had tests done at D&A and had to wait 3 months aftewards and they were really funny about giving me the actial prescription...

    Thanks for any advice

    I am in Birmingham

Asda will and I believe Tesco do as well.
  • Hi I was wondering if anyone can help me please.

I've been wearing lenses for about 4 years using my local opticians direct debit plan on monthly toric lenses. When I found out about buying them online cheaper I cancelled my direct debit and ordered from getlenses.co.uk but now my lens prescription has expired and I was wondering how to go about sorting a new one out.

I saw an advert at another opticians offering free lens trials so went to get this done but they wouldn't give me my prescription (I wrote it down anyway) but have a feeling that they wouldn't confirm it if an online company got in touch with them about it. Anyway they gave me the option of extended wear lenses which I am really interested in but have never tried but this opticians want £40 just to trial them properly (as in take them home and wear continuously) and then they want £24 a month when I can buy Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism Extended Wear for £9 a month online (I normally wear Air Optix for astigmatism).

I don't want to pay £20-30 for a contact lens test and then buy the lenses online and find out I don't like the continuous wear lenses...any advice? Sorry if this is unnecessarily confusing haha

I think you will find no optician will give you the prescription until you have been trailed for the lenses and both you and the optician are happy with the fit and vision - not all lenses are equal

So you can stay with the lenses you are used to and go back to that optician and pay for your test and ask for the prescription or go to another optician and pay for the trial. No optician gives free trials - they are only free if you sign up for the direct debit scheme

i've had a trial with d&a/boots recently - i didn't have to pay for it (other than for the eye test, which i needed anyway)
got 4 pairs of daily lenses to try, but have to be wearing a pair when i go back for the 'assessment'

maybe i am wrong but i thought i could just buy online the same lenses ive been given to try? they have the details printed on them!

You could do, but it would be

a: against the law for anyone to supply you without a valid specification and

b: very stupid as the lenses need to be checked to see if the prescription is optimum (i.e. your vision could be even better than with what you are currently trialling) and also to ensure they are not causing any adverse effects on your eyes.
