Contact Lens Cost Cutting article discussion

Without having access to your records, what you've been prescribed in the past and why & also without seeing your eyes for myself, it would be unethical to make a recommendation to you. You really need to consult your practitioner.
Suffice to say, Ciba aren't the only silicone hydrogel lens on the market and indeed I fit a lot of the Coopervision versions with a very high success rate.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

Had the fitting, I need an aftercare appointment which is next Sat, but the optician said that they would not give me my perscription unless I bought lenses from them, that I would need Bausch and Lomb - I'm buying monthly disposables, but won't wear them 24/7. Can only buy 3 mth supply and it will cost £54.50 - tesco.com sell the exact same lenses, 3mth supply for £21.
Cannot afford £54.50 - can I insist on getting my perscription? I know Martin says it is the law - how come my optician says different?
Please help!
Hi, I've got a similar dilemma with D&A, I went for an assessment and (perhaps niavely) expected them to give me a prescription like you get with glasses. The opticians said that they would only give one after 3 months, however they have told me it will cost £30 per month. I can get them from tesco or asda for £18 per month. But when I try and order with them they both say they will contact the opticians. Will the opticians give them the information or not?
I know its a bit cheeky but I can't really afford not to save the £12.

i have worn extended wear lenses for a few years. these are soft lenses that you can leave in for 30 days and nights so that you wake up being able to see.
they are fine in the winter but in the heat i have trouble with the lenses drying out and then becoming irritable, sometimes a lense will only last a few days before it becomes unusable.
so i am thinking of spending more and using daily disposables. it will also be easier to get hold of them i hope.
would i be right in thinking i should have no problems switching, and can i buy some on the high street to start with to test them before ordering more online?
i have a fairly recent prescription which is 8.4 and 13.8 and -2.00 in both eyes. i assume these are the same numbers for both types of lenses.
can anyone recommend a daily disposable brand to start with??0 -
Why not just consult an optician?Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

Hi there.
I have just completed a 3-month trial with Boots Opticians (two months of monthly disposables and one month of dailies).
I wish to now order my lenses online, so I popped into Boots this morning to get my prescription, but they said they can only give it to me once I have purchased at least 3 months worth of lenses from them! When I queried this, they said it's in their terms and conditions.
Is this right, or are they obliged to give me my prescription now that I have completed the trial?
Thanks in advance for any replies.0 -
I got my first contact lens prescription from Boots 2 years ago but have been getting the lenses from Daysoft. Now I need my prescription re-newing what is my best (ie cheapest) option?0

for several years now I've gotten my monthly disposables from specsavers (£7 pm). I can't believe I've been paying £7pm for lenses (easy vision classic aspheric) that i can get from Boots (albeit under a different name - frequency 55) for £4.75pm! I feel so cheated!! that is quite a significant price difference! bye bye specsavers...:
Edit:
£4.17 pm at feelgoodcontacts.com!0 -
Does that £4.75 include checks, replacement for lost lenses etc etc? Maybe it's not quite as good a deal as it sounds?Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

hey ned. no it doesn't include checks or replacements. the checks are important though, i assumme i could pop into an opticians and get one done if need be? i've just recently had one anyway so i wouldn't need another for a good while. re replacements, i've been lucky that i've never, ever, needed to call up Specsavers who i was originally with, for any so i should be fine!0
