Mrs Upsidedown Bear, please can you give me some advice? I love my job (just not the admin) and I have had my career for 18 years. I did work in banking when I first graduated and hated it. Given the public sector cut backs and job and salary cuts would you advise me to leave?

I can't drive. My health isn't good enough.

I could get a job elsewhere but the same is happening everywhere in my sector. Plus I love my house and don't want to move. What would you advise me to do?

Do you know what? I think I answered my own question. I will carry on.

What would you do? Have you heard that the Holland Germany Match has been postponed as they found a package? Let's hope it's all a false alarm and everyone is safe.

  • I'm not sure I'm the best person to advise as I don't know you in RL but my thoughts are.

Are you on a permanent contract at work? If you are then I wouldn't advise leaving unless you have another job to go to.
If you are made redundant then you will get redundancy pay - check your contract to see how much.
It would be worth looking round to see what jobs are available, are there any you want to do/could do.
Could you talk to someone who knows you in RL and see what they think? They'll know about your health and so on.
Not sure that's much help

It's taken me so long to reply you have answered your own question so don't need me :rotfl::D

Hi I am on a permanent contract. I will get redundancy pay.

I do love my job. I will continue to work here as I enjoy what I teach which is popular and recognised by the government, love my students, enjoy working with nice colleagues, I am v close to where I work too which helps.

I am just worried that our salaries have not risen for 5 years, and are due to fall in the near future together with the threat of job cuts is always there I suppose it's no different to anyone else. I will see what happens over the next few months.

My friends all want me to leave because of the stress and long hours but only after I have found a job. I haven't started looking yet.

It's so hard, I don't know if I can face doing anything else or if i'd be any good. I am risk averse. Can you think of any jobs that are secure? I don't want to retrain to be a doctor though some of my friends are and its such a difficult job. I spent 6 years at university already.

  • I'm not sure there are any really secure jobs these days :(
Doctors work very long hours and have plenty of stress so I don't think that would be a good job for you.
Could you do the same job somewhere else? Would that be less stressful/less hours or just the same? Can't remember if you've said what job you do so that might not be helpful.

hi the same job is exactly the same amount of stress wherever I work in the UK and abroad too! lol.

Despite that I have had a good but v busy day today. I have plenty of work to do today but I am taking tonight off and will wake up early and do it as brain is tired.

I can't believe how fast this week has passed. OMG it is almost Christmas. My tree looks lovely. I keep looking at it. How sad am I?

Hurrah it's the weekend. I have plenty of work to do but it is so nice to do it at home with a cup of tea!

I have had a great surprise in the mail. I took out Halifax Home Insurance and they have sent me a £50 cheque. Hurrah!!!

The weather is expected to take a turn for the worse. We may have snow somewhere in the UK. Wow.

I have done a couple of hours of work and I am having a rest. Haven't achieved as much as I wanted to so I might be working for a fair while for the rest of the weekend but in a chilled way with no pressure listening to classical music.

It's cold. Blimey. We had a bit of snow today but it's all gone now and I have clothes drying outside in the wind. Belgium has been threatened by Daeesh (I am not going to call them by the name they are known by as I am sure they don't represent that religion at all). I hope they are caught soon and Europe can relax again.

9 days till payday. It feels so far away.

I have been invited to the work Christmas do but don't know if I can afford it. To be honest I don't know if I want to go either. It will cost at least £60 and probably more and I would rather use the money to pay for Christmas.

Mrs Upsidedown Bear do you always go to Christmas do's?

  • Hello :hello:

It's very brrrrr here but no snow.
No, I don't go to Christmas do's. I really don't enjoy them and they cost a lot
Don't feel obliged to go :)

My house is really tidy and I can't find it anywhere. So funny. You know I was considered a genius when I was younger. lol.
