  • I paid for the £49 prime membership just over a year ago, it runs out in a couple of days. As soon as I signed up, I cancelled the renewal incase I didn't like it, very easy to do and was explained on an email and various pages. I have made over 25 orders in the past couple of months and opted for the slow delivery in exchange for a £1 MP3 credit, so have £25 to spend on music. In most cases, deliveries were 1-2 days later than the usual prime. The kids like the Amazon steaming and I pay an extra £6.99 a month for 2 disk lovefilm. Stop moaning and read the T+C's people. I will be renewing at £79 as it is good value for me. Especially at Xmas when I panic buy and get next day deliveres. I was in London for the week and wanted a few gifts and had it delivered next day to a local sainsburys. I'm also on first name terms with my postie and Dpd courier thanks to Amazon
  • What about amazon.co.uk?
I was able to cancel both accounts if you read closely.:money:
It is a lot of text to get through but I wanted to explain thoroughly; I guess I wasn't clear enough though. Sorry! :undecided

Cant believe how sensationalised this has become in the press! Seriously - when you sign up to ANYTHING free you ALWAYS check the Ts and Cs! Especially these days!

The Sun were sensationalising it this morning too - but they TOO have their SUN+ membership which is exactly the same. Worse probably as its harder to cancel! Pot + Kettle spring to mind.

Ive done 3 of these so far and NEVER been charged.
Being bored is so boring Im bored of it... :rotfl:

Also - as for forgetting - you can cancel 30 mins after signing up - if not sooner - in your account. If you cant remember to do it 30 mins after signing up then what can I say?

You still get to use the services then for the rest of the trial.

You can do it straight away after signing up.
  • I found the problem was in USA. I cancelled within the month, rubbish movies, got a confirmation email from Amazon UK. Imagine my surprise when my next CC statement showed the charge. I fired off an email to the UK end, who notified US, who were very apologetic and promised to refund. Great, no! Instead of a refund they charged me a second time!! Now mightily hacked off got onto my card company. It took them two days to sort it.

This is how you do it. I was careless too, but Amazon were good about it. And it was through hearing about it through MSE that I got money back, so kudos to the community.

No one minds that people make mistakes and there is help, just that there are too many "complaints".

There is much to dislike about Amazon, but this isn't one of those things.

When my credit card bill arrived in January I too thought I had been a 'silly billy' and signed up in December unintentionally( yes I am a Silver Surfer and may very well be in the first stages of dementia) but thought 'hey why not give it a try'. After 3 weeks I was still was unable to watch any films or videos on my phone ,tablet or Smart TV, so contacted Amazon through Chat and explained the situation. A very charming gentleman graciously agreed to refund my £79.:A It was only when he checked my account that it became clear I had been charged £79 again in January, as I had not used the service he would refund both charges.:A :A On checking for the refunds my statement shows a further debit of £79 (obviously an error while raising my refund)and 3 credits of £79. :T
I will continue to shop with Amazon as even without Prime there are some great bargains to be had but will watch more carefully what I am doing. Oh and just 1 more point many moons ago I had chosen the free trial and successfully cancelled before the auto charge.(perhaps the dementia is a recent thing lol)
  • I am not of 'limited intelligence' as someone put it but I managed to be misled by Amazon and ended up being a Prime member without realising as both myself and my partner use my account (I know commiting the cardinal sin) but never the less I had not used any of the Prime benefits since 'being a member' in July 14 and I recently have received letters from them informing me of this which highlighted to me that I was a member. So time to take action! I went on their live chat help and asked very nicely if I could apply for a refund, and they very nicely obliged just like that , job done 😄
  • One of the reasons I rarely use Amazon is because they try to dupe the customer. I had some items in the shopping basket and only just then realised I was signing up to 'Amazon Prime' so I cancelled the basket and started again. Yet I was still signed up to 'Amazon Prime' without my knowledge. Very Naughty Amazon. I was able to cancel in time, good job I read the SMALL PRINT in the Email from Amazon. Even then finding out how to cancel was not that easy. I never normally sign up to report these type of issues, but feel very strongly about the Amazon Prime tactics they use to dupe the customer.
  • After reading you write up on the Amazon Prime refund, I contacted them by phone, as I couldn't work out how to complete the cancellation on the site.
I am pleased to say, although we were stung for the £79.00 back in November 2014, today I have manged to gain the refund. So to all those who think that they are too late to get refund, I got mine after 3 months. It's not too late :T:j
