MSE News: Been charged for unwanted Amazon Prime? Here's how to cancel

Yes I too was refunded after the trial period when I rang to complain.
I have not bought from Amazon for almost a year yet still was billed in January. Apparently I was signed up in early December, despite not going through the checkout. I had browsed, but bought my goods elsewhere.
I think the MSE article is focusing more on those people who have not knowingly signed up, therefore any small print is irrelevant.
I'm still wondering how this happened to me, especially as I have not opted to store my card details, ie manually input a purchase each time.0 -

There isn't a way of signing up without buying anything unless you sign up from an email about the free trial. There's no way you can just browse their site and accidentally sign up without knowing/buying something with the free trial for Prime ticked.0 -
I certainly would not say I am below average intelligence, but I managed to click the Prime button by mistake. Realised at once but it took me a long time to figure out how to cancel0

Did you really? did you wake up?
I've never been signed up without knowing, and every screen I've seen on Amazon has been clear and unambiguous. It therefore follows that the same applies to every single other Amazon user, no matter what browser they use, no matter what device they use, so matter what pages of the site they browse. The only thing that can possibly explain people getting signed up without their knowledge is stupidity or carelessness.
So Amazon would not have given anyone a £30 apology on top of the refund. That would imply it wasn't 100% the user's fault. Which as above is impossible0 -
Indeed! The idea that Amazon would not only refund but also pay a £30 apology is completely ridiculous!!

Yes, but you forget that there are so many, MANY stupid people out there that, at some point, it all goes "inception", and before you know it, they rule the world.
Ergo, the meek shall inherit the earth. It's already happening. I blame Amazon. It's not MY fault that I can't read terms and conditions attached to an offer. Sometimes my solitary brain cell gets lonely :rotfl:0 -
I am not of 'limited intelligence' as someone put it but I managed to be misled by Amazon and ended up being a Prime member without realising as both myself and my partner use my account (I know commiting the cardinal sin) but never the less I had not used any of the Prime benefits since 'being a member' in July 14 and I recently have received letters from them informing me of this which highlighted to me that I was a member. So time to take action! I went on their live chat help and asked very nicely if I could apply for a refund, and they very nicely obliged just like that , job done 😄
You ARE "of limited intelligence".
You signed up to an offer without reading the CLEARLY STATED terms and conditions. If this was not you, but the "other" account user, then your intelligence is still in question as you allowed another to use your account (also against t's and c's ).
You are yet another member of the countless regions of !!!!less idiots who cannot accept responsibility for their own actions (or lack thereof). Have some respect for yourself and just admit that you made a mistake. Seriously, it's embarrassing.
No doubt I'll get PPR'd for this comment, but idiots are idiots, and people should be allowed to tell the utter, utter morons on here how it is. I'll be back under a new id (geerex1) using mailinator or the like to sign up with. It's a pity the MSE staff can't take a hard line with the idiots.0 -
Fantastic I can see prices for delivery soon to be going up then with all this refunding to stupid people.Dont rock the boat

Still, here is an excellent place to rant. Carry on. I'm sure we'll have lots more success stories for you to rant at. It seems Amazon are really good at refunding people and sometimes even giving people extra as an apology. But wait - why are they apologising, surely as we all know Amazon's website is 100% clear and they don't make mistakes, so why are they refunding AND apologising? You really should write to them and complain. You might get £30 as an apology. After all they seem to be a soft touch, refunding all these people when they didn't have to.
I hope MSE aren't daft enough to PPR you. The PP and all the others who've posted success stories have got their refunds. That have their money back. Sometimes, a bit extra on top. They also get to have a laugh at all the bitter ranters ranting that they shouldn't have :rotfl:0 -
I will admit I do find it rather annoying some have had extra compensation. Yes there is a few cases mentioned with being charged more than once etc to which its fair enough but if people are getting compensation for not reading the terms and conditions in front of them then where is my compensation for reading and declining the terms and conditions I don't agree with.
Reminds of those who got PPI refunds even when they had made a claim, I didn't get free insurance for all those years as I read the T&Cs and declined PPI.
To refund the stupid doesn't bother me too much, but to give compensation and therefore reward people for being stupid is a step too far.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017
