I doubt the issue with coinstar having a cut off on vouchers is money laundering, as much as fraud. A coinstar voucher doesn't contain anywhere like the security features in a £10 note. They want them to be cashed in immediately as if they are taken off the premises it gives people time to study the security features to make counterfeit vouchers.
yup spend a £1 and take a copy home to forge0 -
They are stealing from the people who for any reason can not cash the receipt there and then. The reason could be very urgent why you haven't cashed the receipt in, but that should not matter, its your money not their's so GIVE IT BACK.
I would not have left the shop, I like the children would be jumping up and down with anger (well with walking stick in hand).
£48 is a lot of money, I hope you get it back.
So urgent that they would be willing to wait about 10 mins for the machine to correctly count out £48 in change but couldn't walk and wait another 5 mins to go and get it changed at the counter? Right you are.
And yes, someone really should think of the hypothetical and hysterical children.Dont rock the boat
Dont rock the boat ,baby0 -
There's a lot of people being unfair on the OP here. OK, granted, the vast majority of people will exchange their voucher from a coinstar machine during the period of their "visit" to the shop, but it's incredibly unfair that the machine itself does not specify further than a dubious message about "today" as to what exchange period is permissible.
Indeed (and I alluded to this earlier in the thread), there appears to be no clear indication of what a "day" constitutes. Is it "close of business", is it 00:00-23:59 (or indeed 12:00-11:59), or something else?
OP - let us know what happens. They can't get away with this one.0 -
So OP, have you made any progress with this or have you just given up the £48?Pants0

as if a shop closes at 10pm how would you redeem it between 10pm and 11.59pm0 -
I would say its "close of business" or for 24 hr open supermarkets it will be 23:59

Well that's the thing, isn't it?
One would assume that the t's and c's on a coinstar machine are generic, so where does the distinction lie? I don't know about down south with your crazy Sunday trading laws, but up here, it's entirely possible for a large store to be open continuously from 08:00 on the second of January to 18:00 on December the 24th. There would be, therefore, no daily "close of business" beyond an archaic recognition of "banking hours".
My point is that 24hour supermarkets don't "close" as such, therefore the terms need to be much clearer as to what constitutes a day. Is it a clear midnight-midnight or is it a rolling 24hour block?
In a 24 hour store, would it be possible to be in the ridiculous situation of getting your coin star voucher at 23:55, doing a quick shop and being refused redemption at 00:05 as technically it's the next day?0 -

Yes the branding etc. on the machine will be generic, but specific store info will be on the actual screen as this can be programmed in. I personally think the whole system should be generic and if stores dont like it then tough. so it prints a voucher out and say that you have 7 days to redeem it, just like any manufacturers coupons, giving you a few days to redeem0 -

As for the bank machines - as I and other have said - there is no chance of one of these counting machines being 'rolled' out to our bank branches - whatever company that are - in a 20 mile radius from my address - 6 banks have closed in the past 6 months and further 7 are closing before June. This will mean we have to go to the large banks in the city and the parking alone (let alone the time and petrol) will be double what coinstar take.0 -
I found out today that my Local Nisa store has a Natwest ATM and Cash Counting/Deposit machine. I only found out when i needed milk as as i was passing i popped in. No idea how long they have had these in, but it is now going to save me a 20 mile round trip to deposit money into my business account0
