Zog were granted an electricity licence way back in September 2017. I constantly ask them when supply will commence. I was told early this year last i asked back in October . But I'm not holding my breath. I've been given several answers which haven't come to fruition

    Here's the email I received

    "Thank you for your email.

We are very appreciative of your patience whilst we are setting up the supply of electricity.

We are hoping to begin supplying electricity early 2020, however we do not have a confirmation date as of yet.

I will make a note on your account of your interest in electricity and we will contact you with any further updates we may have.

In the meantime, it may be worth keeping an eye on our website and social media, as I am sure when we begin the supply of electricity this will be advertised also. ""

Thanks for the response - bit disappointed Zog will not be offering electric tariffs sooner - but not surprised they are being cautious.

I agree, I've been waiting for them to do electricty too. I'm on a 2 year fixed, just comign to the end of 1 year almost, been with them now probably 4 or 5 years and as other shave said, had no issues, take my readings, get my bill etc no problem at all. Slightly disappointed when i renewed as they sent me a link to a page showing the tarrifs, i chose one BUT upon checking the website a coupel of days beofre I woudl start the new tarrif, a newer tarrif was available that was cheaper but they hadn't told me of this, was a bit disappointed they woudl have let me pay more on a older tarrif than tell me about the newer one but fortunately as I spotted it, I was able to email and have them switch me to that new tarrif.

I was looking at there tarrif's the other day and i agree, prices are going up, when i looked towards end of last year, BG dual fuel was cheapest option for me, which i was amazed at but I couldn't move as in a 2 year fix on gas and I'm just now coming to the end of a 1 year fix with SEE for elec so will be starting to look for new elec supplier around mid Fed i suspect.

i think i saw on trust pilot reviews that Zog were working on a site that you could login to and view usage, bills etc but I've not seen that materialise yet either. Shame really as Zog seem a good company and I've got no complaints, just which they would say when things would happen i.e smart meters, electricity supply, login option to view account etc on the website and stick to those dates and not keep moving them.

Would love to have my gas & elec via Zog if tarrif's were reasonable, would be ideal.

My 24 mth ends at beginning of May so decided I would move now as cheaper and not certain that prices would continue falling. E-mailed at 15.04 requesting move, reply at 1529 checking I understood new tariff has £30 exit, replied at 15.33 to confirm and switch done received at 15.49. Why can't they all be like that !

Similar story to yourself molerat. I was getting concerned I'd have to move away from zog due to uncompetitive tariffs. In the nick of time up pops mercury 12 v 35 saving me around 60 pounds a year on my existing zog saturn 24 fix. That fix was due to end towards the end of April

So I emailed zog yesterday (a Sunday at beginning of February) and asked if I could switch to this new tariff

Within 24 hours I was not only told it was OK to switch but the tariff switch was enabled and my direct debit reduced immediately by £9.50 a month

Extremely impressed. I am now on the second lowest tariff I found. Only gulf bettered zog and I know little about gulf except for reading several of their top brass have been involved with previous failed utility companies according to press reports so I was happier sticking with a company I can rely on

Now get those electricity tariffs up and running please zog
  • So my move away from Zog has completed and received final bill.  All good except one thing.   My move from Zog to YE was on the 29 Jan, so my bill from Zog should have been 1 Jan - 28 Jan @ 28 days standing charge.
They have billed me up to the 29 Jan (so an extra day's standing charge of 15p).   If they rip off all their customers by 15p, it would make a nice sum.

Was there an exit fee on your tariff? Or were you within the 49 days before it ends. I was on there 2 year tariff and ask to change to there cheaper 1 year deal, I was told I could move but there was a £30 exit fee (which is fair enough, more than 49 days before the contract ends) I will be paying the exit fee and moving to the suppler I have my electric with, also about £90 cheaper. Zog is a good supply and I am quite sad to leave them.

No. My saturn 24 tariff had no exit fee. The tariff I have now signed up to however does but is considerably cheaper.

Have you received the first statement from YE yet?
If so, does it also bill you for the 29th? If so, raise a complaint with them - they are responsible for managing the switch, and you should not be being double charged under any circumstances, even if is is only 15p

Where an early exit fee applies to a Zog tariff, they will apply this whether you switch away or transfer to another tariff before the switching window opens.

I think the problem with Zog is they took their eye off the ball recently, and kept their prices stagnant for about 12 months,  in a market where gas prices were generally falling rapidly.
Then they rushed out a revised Mercury 12 tariff (v34), quickly followed by v35 about 14 days later.
Looking at v35, the issue seems to be the price varioes widely across the country.
e.g. In the Eastern Region where Zog are based, they are quite competitive - a few suppliers are marginally cheaper, Gulf seeming the cheapest currently, but you'd need to be using over 50,000 kwh per year to save £90

On the other hand, East Midlands region which is traditionally slightly cheaper for gas than the Eastern Region is actually more expensive with Zog.

In the London region, which is always quite expensive for gas,  Zog are still quite expensive even on their Mercury 12 tariff - they are about 10th in the list and cost about £40 a year more than Gulf based on a typical 12000kWh usage per year.
None of the other Zog tariffs are worth considering at this time.

Which begs the question, where are you and how much gas do you use to save £90 over Zog?

    Surely you can't be serious.

Zog are one of the good guys. If there are any small energy company awards going then it's outfits like Zog that should be receiving them.
