I switched electricity and gas to GB Energy on 27 August but my electricity has only just transferred.
The first time I rang it was answered quite quickly but I was told electricity transfers are very slow so I left it until last week to ring again. This time I had to hold on about 15-20 minutes and was told they would re-apply and it should transfer in 2 days, which it did. I have just been asked for my first electricity reading. The web site tells me the reading is wrong so I had to ring up again. After holding on for 46 minutes I gave up and sent a message through the site.

I only choose companies with good feedback and I rang GB energy before switching to ak if they had callback or told customers on hold how long they had to wait I was told no but they aimed to answer all calls in 4 minutes!

OMG!!!! I am now furious with GB Energy Supply.

I just got off the phone to my previous supplier - they told me that they received closing meter readings from my new supplier. GB Energy Supply gave my previous supplier INCORRECT METER READINGS. Surely this is not legal?!

All meter readings go to an independent third party on switch for verification. Why - because consumers mis-read meters. The third-party will verify/adjust the meter readings that you have provided based on the historical data that they hold for your property based on previous actual meter readings. The two suppliers use the agreed figure to close and open your accounts. If the old supplier is unhappy with the readings provided it can raise an Agreed Readings Dispute with the new supplier. However, for gas, the difference between the agreed meter reading and the reading that you supplied has to exceed 125CM3s.

You will only pay for the gas consumed. I had an error last year of 120CM3s. No dispute could be raised, and it took me 3 months to reach the opening figure with the new supplier. The 'real' cost of this discrepancy was about £2.34. My new supplier agreed to cover this small additional cost.

One month after joining, and before I'd even submitted a meter reading, they emailed to say it looks like we need to change your direct debit from £31 a month to £38.

I decided to play it cool and just said I'm going to assume this was a mistake, please confirm that it was or I will leave.

He messaged back after a few days to say it will remain the same.

In the context of reports of unjustified price hikes to all their customers I won't be staying with them long and wouldn't recommend them. I'm on a fixed deal so I would have got a refund at the end of the year, so I think they are just trying to grab an interest free loan from their customers.

I have been with GBEnergy for the past 12 months. CS and billing have been on par with the best. Last Friday, I received an e-mail from them REDUCING my DD by £6 per month. This is in line with my own calculations.

Unjustified price increases? Customers on standard variable tariffs (Premium Energy) have to be told when prices rise. Whether the increase is justified is something that only the supplier can determine. The customer has 2 options: stay or ditch/switch. There is nothing underhand going on here.

  • Switched to GB Energy at the beginning of October. Less than 1 month after switching they email me to tell me they want to increase my direct debit by about 25% (from £84 to £105). Tried to contact them by phone last weekend but customer service is only open Monday to Friday. Sent them a message through the website but they have not responded. Try to ring them last evening at 7.30pm, only to receive a recorded message stating the customer service department was closed and to call back between the hours of 8.00am and 8.00pm, Monday to Friday, again I was calling at 7.30pm?.
Needless to say, I am not overly impressed with their customer service and feel that they under quoted in order to get my business. Anyone know how to add feedback on the company on the MSE website?

What about their magic cheap tarifs- how do you get them?

My latest bill indicates that I could save the best part of £200 a year by switching to Fixed 12 diamond, yet this tarif doesn't exist on the web site???
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

According to the UK Power website that particular tariff has already been withdrawn. Remember that all savings need to be taken with a large piece of salt if you are on a fixed tariff with less than 12 months to run.

So they can send me a bill, post dated to 9 Nov, today referencing what is effectively a none existent tariff - is that allowed?

Or does the wording really mean "You could save £200 by switching, (except you can't actually switch)"

I've emailed them/him to find out.....
