I went from 70 when there was nobody close to me down to 50-55 where he decided to come out from the inside lane (presumably because everyone else was slowing down) behind me and stay up my....
If I thought it was safe I would have slowed more but I don't think the gap between us was enough. Which is why I went to the outside let him undertake and carry on at 50-55 if not more.
With all respect you people can call my driving or my decisions but as you were not there I can't see how you can judge my decisions. I have come on here asking for an idea of my likely punishment.
I wasn't intentionally breaking the law tried my best to get within the limits and just want to know what to expect but people on here feel the need to be sarcastic or as helpful as a chocolate fire guard. Those glass houses of yours must be awesome.
For the people who have helped or attempted to thanks. I have read up and for anyone else of I have been caught its likely to be a fine (£60-70 depending on where I have read) and 3 points or a speed awareness course.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I don't know where you read that one, it is £100 Fixed Penalty and 3 points for speeding.
If you have been caught, you will get offered a Bribe.... sorry "Speed Awareness Course" for somewhere in the region of £90-100, A slice of this does go to the police force, whereas the fine would go straight to central government. We’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. Ariba - he had foreign plates so it may not be an issue for him. useful inromation here http://www.which.co.uk/cars/driving/driving-advice/dealing-with-speeding-tickets/speeding-fines-your-rights/
Reading that it seems to state they the police have 14 days to issue ( two weeks )
and theres a bit of leeway in when you could get a ticket
30mph ticket at 35+
40mph at 46
50 at 57
60 at 68
70 at 79
Another thing to bear in mind is that speedometers in cars often under read, in my car when the speedo is on 70 the sat nav says 66
speedo 50 sat nav 47 and so on.
If you can you may want to test this to put your mind at rest, if you have a sat nav, or a smart phone and a bit of road thats safe to do this with the apropiate speed restriction you can drive at the same speed on your speedo and check it against the sat nav/phone (in a hands free holder)
As for someone up your backside - my favourite way to deal with them is to pull over to let them pass - if not possible then I will slowly drop my speed until I can safely pull over and let them pass, or they can then pass safelyFrom the Plain Language Commission:

Great. This was all I was kind of after from my initial post. I didnt particularly want or need to go into the details. As I said, it is what it is just a fact of life and no point moaning about it.
Thanks for the post.

You may be lucky and get away with it TBH. If the lorry was on it's limiter (~56MPH/90KM/H) and you were not leaving it for dust, you may be just below the normal enforcement threshold.
Sadly, many lorry drivers take advantage of this and sit way too close to cars going through roadworks.
Nearly all cars over-read the road speed and whilst some drivers think they are doing 50mph in the middle lane whilst making no progress, they are infact doing 45ish and holding everyone else up.
They also expect lorries to overtake in the outside lane, which is illegal.
Best thing to do in roadworks is sit in the left lane if a lorry is trying to pass, he will fly by in about 10 seconds.
Good luck OPWe’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why you can not have your own opinion on here and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Thats why I moved into the outside lane, no room to move into the inside lane. Let him go past and then moved back in. Not ideal but it let him crack on and me slow down.
So if a car had pulled in front of your vehicle and slowed to 40 ..I assume you are saying you would have carried on and run into the back of it as you couldn't slow down ?0 -

So to clarify, as against slowing down in your lane, you chose to move to a right-hand lane to let the lorry pass you on the wrong side?
And this was on a UK Motorway, like the M5, M6 etc, which I drive every single week, facing similar foreign idiot drivers and doing as I stated - slowing down gently?
If you can't drive with reasonable care and attention, which based on your description you did not, then hand back your licence and stay off the roads.
And it's all very well saying we can't judge you - but the Magistrates can, and would say exactly the same.
Now, as this is nothing to do with a Parking issue, which is what this bit of the forum is for, would you mind taking the advice of others and asking in the right place?

Not Ideal - not legal either. That alone warrants a £100 ticket for Driving Without Due Care.
Have you read the highway code since you passed your test? Or even before passing it?0
