    Thanks all.

    My car is a 2010 citroen c1 vtr+

I booked my MOT and service online and have not found a way to cancel and go elsewhere. I've looked on their site and it looks about 50 quid per tyre. I've prepared myself to need 4.
Have you tried simply ringing them up.

on another note though... if you had an advisory last year on tyres, I wouldn't have waited a year to get them done! you could be driving round with illegal tyres!

I bought the car in April. The MOT certificate was from February. My parents had to go pick the car up for me as I was at work and they saw the certificate before me. I have no idea if it was changed after the MOT.

As a car driver, you should make sure how legal/illegal your tyres are.

Penalty for driving with illegal tyres is 3 pts each plus fine plus conviction code, penalty for having an accident with illegal tyres could be a lot worse.

Read the link for a start:

Thanks, I know how thick they should be but I was using a ruler and 0mm never starts at the beginning of the ruler! :rotfl:

I've got 20p though so will check them when I leave work.

  • Don't forget if you go to KwikFit you'll probably need new shock absorbers, brakes etc depending on how gullible they think you are.

You've already conditioned yourself to buying four tyres that you may not need and if they pick up on that they will sell you whatever they can get away with.

Oh I won't let on. My OH is driving down too so he can bring me back home. We're not gullible folk.

I think you are gullible folk!

You didn't check whether previous MOT advisory regarding tyres was rectified prior to purchase.
You don't know how to check the tread depth of a tyre.
You don't know how to determine the size of your own tyres.
You don't know how to use the internet to check fitted rices of tyres.
You booked your car in for an MOT with Kwik Fit.
You can't even pick up the phone to cancel an appointment with Kwik Fit.

You forgot this, she's already paid.

I know you're being blunt but you're being far from helpful.

I have never booked an MOT in my life.
Yes I probably should have checked myself. I swear I heard something about it being rectified. I bought my car from a garage and I (perhaps wrongly, we'll find out tomorrow) assumed they would have rectified it before selling it on. (naive and ideal thinking I know!)

To be honest I am expecting to pay for tyres because I do a lot of miles.
I do know how to use the internet to check tyre prices, although I am unaware what I do if Kwik Fit do in fact rip me off. Can I actually go to another garage? (I see you failed to answer this part of my post)

I know how to check them myself but I'm not confident in doing so!

Seeing as I'm sat half a mile from my car at the moment I could not tell you the size of them either.

You know what, everyone has to start somewhere and it just so happens I'm starting now. If you don't have anything helpful to contribute then why post in the first place. I already said I've been told me booking at Kwik Fit was wrong and if it turns out they rip me off it's a lesson to learn, isn't it?

  • Have a look at how much they charge for tracking.

You'll need that adjusting after their free check.
  • You can't even cancel an appointment with Kwik Fit. Did you put a deposit down? Probably not. Have they already got your car at their garage? No. If you're so concerned about taking your car there just ring them up and cancel or just don't turn up. They can't do anything about it.

Regarding the potential cost of tyres, I typed in "fitted tyres" into google and a plethora of websites came up. One of the top three was even Asda tyres. You know, that well known supermarket. Click on their site, type in the registration number of the car (if you know it) and it'll tell you how much different brands of tyres will cost on an all inclusive basis.
