Urgent: Opening a bank account with minimal ID

I would have your wages paid into your Mum's account for the moment and ask her to draw out cash for you when you are paid. I know this is not ideal and you were looking for a debit card but this is only for the first few weeks.
Then invest in a provisional DL once you've been paid, by which time your NI letter would have arrived. Coupled with the letters from your benefit entitlement and wage slips, you should then have enough ID to open an account. Also make sure you are on Electoral Roll, this too will take time but at least you are putting everything in place now while you acknowledge there is a problem rather than putting half of the things off until the 12th of never. If you are on the ER you may find you can apply online for a basic account as they MAY be able to ID you electronically.
Just one last checking question, did you ever have a child's savings account opened by any family members?
Many children's savings convert to a basic savings account. This would give you your own sort code & account number to start with while you sort out an everyday account (Just a thought!)
I am aware you said you wanted to save but sorting out an account needs to be a priority first, everything else will fall into place in time.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards. I don't understand this, I was able to go onto a bank website who I did not and have never banked with, and set up a current account online without the need for any documents to be seen. I did not even have to go to the branch with any documents. They send me a debit card and online login details and that was it.
Im sure they did not ask for any details of my documents either.0 -
That tends to be possible only if you have a a credit record and appear on the electoral register0

Could I ask which bank this was with?
And no, no benefit letters to this address or utility bills as I've recently moved here and it's my Mothers house.
Funnily enough I got an electoral roll letter sent through yesterday asking for it to be updated, I know you can do it online now but I'm not sure how long it takes to be put on their system.
The benefit letters I sent for were just a NI reminder letter, but I'm sure that can be taken in to account as ID.0 -

Lloyds bank. It was just after they split from TSB. Interestingly as TSB is nearer to me I tried them first, but the application "went missing" so I could not be bothered.0 -

Hi
You say in your first post that you have benefits letters from previous addresses.
Can I ask how these benefits were paid to you?
Do you have a savings account? If you do it might be worth going to the bank/building society this is with and speak to someone there. They might be a bit more sympathetic to your situation.
Or you could go into Barclays or Co-Op and see if you can get a Basic Bank account.
Have you actually attempted to apply for any bank accounts online or was it just HSBC who turned you down?
Good luck.0 -
I've opened two Lloyds & a Halifax account in the past without having to provide any ID at all.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

Good luck.
I had them paid via a Post Office account, the Job Center open these for you and only benefits can get paid in to them, mines currently closed as it's been inactive for some time now.
I've only tried with HSBC but I know the crack with ID for most banks, at the moment I'm applying online with Nationwide, hopefully it goes well but I doubt it.
Thanks for the luck, gunna need it!0
