Well, I've just been to the bank and paid off the money I've been saving all year towards my mortgage (£2800) :j :j Its the wierdest feeling, I feel sooo proud that I've managed to save it all but then a bit scared too ... it feels very final, like I can't get that money again! :o:o I do have other money in savings for emergencies and I know if I ws ever really stuck my parents would help me out, but it still feels dead grown up and a bit surreal :D:D
Right, off to start finding some more to save :D:D :rotfl:

  • Well done on the overpayment, you should be so chuffed to reduce your mortgage so quickly:j :j :j .
Know what you mean about feeling weird though. i have been saving money for a scooter for my dd16 and felt quite secure whilst the money was sat in my account. Went and paid for it yesterday, plus jacket, helmet, insurance, locks, covers etc etc and now bank is almost £2000 lighter:eek:   . Feels really weird not having that little balance showing in my ms money. Must get saving again:o :o:o

Good for you, paying that much off the mortgage, and also increasing your target - I am sure you will do it!!

I've just updated all my mortgage stuff to show when I actually paid off my lump sum, and I've realised that it was right all along, and the figures I worked out the other day were all wrong ... so, with todays overpayment my new mortgage free date is May 2032 ... the money today has knocked 2 years and 7 months off the mortgage :j :j Its really got me motivated again to go and find some more money to put towards the next overpayment;) :D

Wow! That is amazing! You've made such a difference - definitely an inspiration! Did you just use the snowball calc to work it out?

I use this calculator mainly .... http://www.quote-engine.com/mortgage-payments-calculator.html but Egg have a good one on their website too. Have alook on the mortgage free board, theres a whole sticky about them ;)

I like the one I use becaue you can put in different overpayments and it will show you the difference it will make. I guess the whatsthecost thingy will do the same kinda thing though ;):D

Forgot to mention I'm up to 30 watchers on ebay now and £7.18 of bids

OMG!!!!!!!!!! If we were to pay off £2500 a yr more (overpayment) after we're debt free it will take 10 YEARS off the total amount saving nearly £38000 in interest! I can NOT believe this!!! (can you tell lol!)

Thank you SO much for the info!
