That's lovely, Calley! Clever you!
It must be very relaxing to do!
I think a hand-stitched birthday token is much nicer than a bought card! I'm sure your friend will really appreciate it!

Calley, what sort of cross stitching do you do? I have a half finished dragon one that's been sitting in a drawer for years. (About 10, when I work it out.) Haven't yet worked out the practicalities of needles, threads, charts and marauding Gitdogs.
I do counted cross stitch. So it makes you have to watch what you are doing. I do kits or charts from magazines. What ever take my fancy really. have a small nstash of fabric, kits and threads and charts.
I once had a pre-printed background one. And bottled it and did it on navy back ground. Sold the chart and pre-printed once I had finished.
I have done this one, My mum has that one, I also have a barn owl I started for my mum as she loves barn owls so need to get on finish that, her birthday is in september. Goodness know when I started that one LOL!!!!

Here is the regular repost..............:starmod:......................................................................:starmod:.....................
Here is the suggested THREAD ETIQUETTE. By following this etiquette, all posters, whether new or existing, will feel safe, unpressured and respected..
- This is a thread for support. We have discovered some good friends on here, but we promise always to welcome and include new people, and not to be cliquey.
- People may make suggestions to help each other, and might even ask if the suggestions were helpful or have been carried out, but we'll really try not to nag each other or put too much pressure on.
- The normal board rules about sexism, racism, homophobia etc. apply, but if we are careful we should be able to discuss almost anything without breaching board rules - so far we have discussed subjects ranging from child abuse to incontinence!
-If someone thinks that too much pressure is being applied, they can post the trigger word PENGUIN and flag up the fact that they believe there's a potential for someone feeling too nagged to do something. ANYONE could post PENGUIN if they felt there was a danger that suggestions were being enforced too much.
Similarly, if they want to discuss something that might be a trigger for some people, then posting PENGUIN would be a warning that what follows in the whiteout might be a trigger.
- So, if you think something might be a PENGUIN, please post something like the green bit which follows.
"I would like to discuss something to do with [insert subject here], but I am concerned that this might be a trigger for some people. Is everyone OK if I post about that?"
Then, when you post, repost the word PENGUIN above the discussion. Then post the penguiny bit in white! And the phrase END OF PENGUIN when you have finished.
It will look like this. You will be able to see the white text if you highlight it or if you quote it, (so please don't 'quote' a post containing a penguin onto the thread!)
(Harmless example follows here):-
PENGUIN
This is a penguin. A nasty, crotch biting penguin (CBP).
It isn't really! So you can look.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozGTv0hxhpc[/url]
END OF PENGUIN
(NB on a tenth-page repost of the etiquette, you can see these penguiny words because they are white against the green 'quote' background. On a normal post, they will be white against white, and so won't be seen on the thread.)
IMPORTANT: It has been ascertained that some posters to this thread have found that there are certain subjects which act as triggers, precipitating a worsening of their condition.
To protect these posters, you are respectfully requested NOT to discuss these subjects on this thread:-
Religion. (Please note: it is recognised that everyone is entitled to their beliefs, and we respect those beliefs. It is only because of the fact that religion does act as a trigger for some posters, that we exclude it from discussion.)
N.B. Please don't even mention the name of the religion.
The afterlife. The reason for this is explained in this thread by one poster, and there will be others for whom this is a trigger.
We ask and thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
.........:starmod:.....................................................................:starmod:................
It should be pointed out that if anyone is feeling very distressed or close to a crisis, they do not have to worry about what they are posting, or whether it is a penguin for someone else or not. In a crisis situation, just post! We wouldn't want anyone to feel that they couldn't ask for help in case it's a penguin! The penguin thing only applies to a general discussion situation.
- More suggestions please.............We stress that we are suggesting that we AGREE some Thread Etiquette to HELP people who might feel anxious about posting, we are not trying to IMPOSE rules, just relating this to facilitating groups, so that people feel safe and able to participate as fully as they can.

It's so easy to let the one case, where you didn't get the help the client needed, totally overshadow the dozens and dozens where you were able to effect a change for the better in the client's circumstances.

Today has been interesting! We have been cleaning for the insurance people tomorrow and had several police visits. The man who lives upstairs is an ex-drug user, he is now on Methadone and has replace Heroin with alcohol instead so is generally a little loud. He is currently on probation and he has several friends who still use. A woman he has been dating turned up today screaming at him to get her some 'gear', much wailing and crying when he refused. She became more and more hysterical and then apparently he threw her cigarette out of the window? (I have no idea).
This resulted in much yelling about how dare he throw her cigarette away and he asked her to leave several times. She left screaming insults (mainly about her cigarette) and then went outside and called the police saying he was witholding her things. Hence the police arrived and took him out of the house so she could get her things and we were questioned on what we heard. She then tried to hit him outside, he pushed her, the police immediately handcuffed him and she started screaming that she didn't want him arrested. Eventually, the police waited until she walked away, removed the handcuffs on him and left. All that over a thrown cigarette, I am sure the police have better things to do...
I do have some sympathy because Heroin withdrawals are 100x worse than codeine withdrawals which I have just been through so I am sure that she was suffering a lot but it's annoying and a tad scary to hear the drama. I'm sure heroin withdrawals are hideous, I hope she gets some help too. Sadly I believe methadone is even more addictive!
Pyxis - I totally agree about the magnifying the tiny bad things, its very annoying and I dont know how to turn it off at times.
This has been an incredibly low energy week, with some tears. Just feel it takes so long to drag myself back up to being even remotely functional:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
Aw, have hug dragonette. Little things count as functioning right now, washing a couple of dishes work. Take it very slowly and be proud of what you can achieve.
You are correct about Methadone. Although it is the go-to drug to get off Heroin it is even more addictive with even worse withdrawals. The man upstairs goes to a chemist every morning for his dose and has been told to not even think of missing a day or he will become very ill. It stops him using anything illegal but sadly the addiction is still the same, he has swapped a drug that society hates for a drug that society approves of, but he is just as dependent on it with alcohol top ups throughout the day.
He suffers with depression, he told Wasp that he feels he doesn't have a life. He hasn't been offered help to stop his addiction, just an alternative to it because he has used for over 30 years and everyone feels it is too ingrained in him for him to stop entirely. He does attend NA meetings but sadly he just seems to meet people who are still using or relapsing which isn't great for his stability (or the mine in the flat below him!).Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Thats very sad
it doesnt make sense to me that there aren't more actual drug rehabs in this country. Methadone isn't a life
eta: Thank WaS, I keep trying to remind myself of that. This relapse is definitely challenging my emotional resilience, but I'll get there:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
I was an addiction worker for a time. I've got a post grad I'm alcohol and drug studies. I worked with addicts long before I got the qualification. It's a fascinating subject. The way many other countries deal with addiction are light years away from the UK
It falls to charities to provide rehabs, some churches as well. There's little if any govt funded rehabs, you could fill most of them 1000 times over.
People can and do detox from methadone in weeks. It's the head stuff that's harder, changing habits and breaking ties from others who are still using.0 -
Can't believe how quickly this evening has flown by.
Been sorting out my x-stitch stuff and just cleared the bed off of stuff and put it away.
I am yawning my head off. Not sure why as I slept for 3 hours this afternoon.
And got something to take to help me sleep but not sleeping tabs. Will take a couple in a min.
The dr did say I need to get in a routine. I know what he means. Good sleep hygiene. After tonight laptop goes out of the bedroom. And will be in bed by 10.30pm at the latest. And if I can't sleep get up and do something read, cross stitch etc.
Need to get out and exercise everyday. And stop eating crap food!!!!
Need to go on-line and renew my library books now.
Thanks again to everyone you are a fab lot. I have a long way to go. But I need to sort this as I can't keep living my life like this. If i live to the average age of a woman it's 82.5 years. That another 40 yrs I can't and wont be like that for all that time.
Everyone take care and have a good nights sleep. I am off out for the day tomorrow with my ex-husband. So I will have company.
