Calley, regarding the mobile phone/text thing, would it help to choose a different text alert, perhaps a nice gentle one, and possibly one with a rising level of loudness, so that it isn't a huge shock when it goes off? A gentle one would be kinder on the ear, too. And having a different tone, you wouldn't then associate it with the text arguments you used to have.

Very good point Pyxis, thanks for putting it in such sensible terms!
Shame you're not getting what you want, Tea. Hopefully once you've been there a while and sussed it out you'll be able to move your hours a little. I currently tend to work 7.30-4 (unless I can't get out of bed!) and am so used to leaving 'early' (people keep asking me 'how do you get to leave at 4?' 'Err, I start an hour earlier than you!'), if I had to move to working 8.30-5/9-5.30 I'd be gutted!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
I am gutted! :rotfl: I usually do 7.45 to 4.15 now. 9-5.30 is going to be a big shock... especially on a friday (currently finish at 1pm!)
It's not like you can do anything significant with the extra time in the morning, so it just feels like a much longer day. On top of a much longer commute it's not feeling like such a good prospect today.
Oh well - doesn't look like I have much choice. Bit of a pain. My main aim for now is sorting out Wed finish so I can get to brownies (5.45pm start, and at least 30 mins travel). Will just have to do the hours they want the rest of the time to start with - hopefully after a few months they'll appreciate that nothing major happens after 4.30pm and let me change.0 -
Calley, hope the appointment at the doctors went well.
Tea Lover, sorry your working hours won't be as you would have liked, perhaps when you've been there a little while, your manager will be more inclined to allow you some flexibility.

Just got the electricity back. I'd forgotten it was going to be off all day, so hadn't even made a cup of tea. Tea Lover - i'm assuming you understand how serious that is! I tried some tea like stuff made with hot tap water. Better not to talk about it.
I hadn't realised how dependent i am on the Internet and TV to block out my thoughts. Another difficult day, but I spent it restoring the finish on a dining table I've been keeping for my daughter
Calley - I'm glad you got things sorted out, and I hope the doctors goes well.
I'm not sure I agree that most people would rather not work. I miss having a job, but have to accept that at the moment that isn't possible.0 -
Just nipping in for a virtual hug, as I am in need and don't do real life ones. One of those cases at work where there isn't a good option, there's just a least bad one which is still pretty rubbish for the person concerned. And I know I've done all I can, but I can't help feeling I should have done more. Topped off by letting myself get into a potentially dangerous situation which I could have avoided with a bit more care.
Supportive colleagues though to help pick up the pieces after I got myself into a state. So that's one good thing to come out of it all.
Calley, what sort of cross stitching do you do? I have a half finished dragon one that's been sitting in a drawer for years. (About 10, when I work it out.) Haven't yet worked out the practicalities of needles, threads, charts and marauding Gitdogs. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

It's so easy to let the one case, where you didn't get the help the client needed, totally overshadow the dozens and dozens where you were able to effect a change for the better in the client's circumstances.
I know! I've been there, done that!

Thanks better than the last one. As it was rushed and he was an hour behind
Hardly had time to sit my bum down and get a magazine LOL!!!!
He gave me something to help me sleep but not sleeping pills.
But I was so tired I went to bed about 12ish and slept until nearly 4pm.
Going to drag out all my x-stitch stuff so I can start to look at what I want to do next.
This is my latest finish stitched it 3 times so far . Was going to keep the latest one for myself but it's someones birthday next month. We exchange cards normally. But as I had everything in it really costs me nothing apart from my time to do it.
And I will stitch it at least one more time fingers crossed for myself LOL!!!
Yours
