If I didn't laugh I'd cry. It turns out the locum doctor has noticed I was due a medication review in February and won't prescribe until I come in. I tried to make the appointment for that at the time and was told to wait for 2 months because it wasn't urgent and my doctor's office was under-staffed. So I asked for an appointment and the next one they can give me is 6 days time. I explained that I am about to go into withdrawal and the receptionist spoke to a nurse who said that as I was only taking 30mgs of codeine 8 times a day that I wouldn't go into withdrawal and I can take other pain medication in the meantime. They will supply the other medication on the prescription but not the opiates because that is what the yearly check is for. I explained that I cannot take other medications so the by now very shirty receptionist told me to go to A&E if I can't wait.

Oh well, by the time it gets to next Tuesday I will be out of the other side of withdrawal at least. How they can possibly think that it won't happen is beyond me. The next few days will be fun.

WaS - have you thought of using this as a chance to try withdrawing from your opiates?

Just to clarify to other posters and anyone reading this thread - WaS and I have been chatting about her possibly reducing her meds. She's discussed this with her GP as well, and was considering it. I am NOT advocating reducing meds for just anyone reading the thread, I just thought it might be useful to say the following:

WaS, if you do want to use this time as an opportunity to try doing without your opiates, we are all right behind you. Team WaS is here!!!

  • Awww, that teddy bear doggie is adorable!

Funny you should say that, JM. I did discuss with my GP the fact that we aren't actually sure what part of me hurts anymore because I have taken pain medication for so long that it may be masking new problems. The only way to find this out is for me to ease off of it even if for just a few days and see if what actually hurts. I actually think this is a good opportunity for me to try it, it does make sense that it is impossible for me to know whether I am better or worse right now. I do have 8mgs if it gets too much and there is always A&E but I think I will try to take a now 5 day break and see what happens.

As JM says, don't ever do this unless you have discussed it with a doctor first. In my case it has been so long since I have been able to tell what is hurting it would actually help me to take a break to find out. Also, never stop medication suddenly, even in my case I have reduced down 8mgs first.

I am feeling a bit blue today. I feel like I need to sob for a while to let the boohoos out but I can't. Maybe I need to watch last week's supervet.

    Did someone mention Supervet?! :happyhear

Code - I saw an article on boredpanda earlier about a nurse cat. He stayed at the rescue centre that helped him and now he looks after other injured animals. Some v cute pictures on there! Certainly made me cry :o:o

Will have to check that out. :) It reminded me of this story I read about in America. This dog dragged all of it's puppies out of a burning building and carried them to the fire truck. So emotional but so heartwarming too.

I did :) I didn't really do much, but they were having quite an informal evening as it was the first one after the hols so there was a lot of games. Had a look through some of the badges they're doing and the activities they have planned.

Now I just a new job that fits around the times!

    Wheeee! Another tick, tea!

I'm off to Spain tomorrow. Am taking my iPad, but the hotel appears to have wifi only in the public parts, which will be a Pain, as I like to surf while in bed in the morning or evening. The first 3 days are going to be very busy with the Convention, so I probably won't get much chance to post.

    I promise I won't bring back a toy donkey! :D
And I've already got castanets! Hahaha!
