    Hi all,

    Here's one for you...

Currently have good cable phone/broadband package, but am moving to a (non-cabled) house with a BT line. So, before I do anything I'll have to sign-up with BT for option 1 in the new house, which should cost nowt.

I believe Tiscali's £14.99 phone/2mb broadband is available to the new property, but Talktalk phone/broadband is not. I've been told that I can sign-up with BT, then get my line transferred to Tiscali during the BT "cooling off" 14 days. Then I can pull out of the BT contract and keep the cheap Tiscali deal.

Tickety-boo, except that if Tiscali miss connecting me in the 14 days, I'll have an (out of "cooling off" period) contract with both Tiscali and BT!!! (although this would still only be £25/month...)

Anybody else had any experience of this? does it sound feasible, possible or plausible??

    Thanks in advance!

    Andy

There is NO 14 day cooling off period once the line is connected! You can cancel up until its switched off, but then you will be in the contract. Whoever said otherwise either lied to you or didnt know what they were talking about.

Oo-er! "liar" is a strong word, but (having just looked thru' BT's terms), looks like you're right...

It was Talktalk sales people who told me about the BT 14 day cooling off period, although it turns out that I can't get Talktalk in the area of my new house. Caveat emptor (buyer beware) as they say.

The maximum £70 cancellation fee is probably better value than seeing out the £10.50/m for the 12 month contract period, and adding ~£15/m for broadband (over 12 months this lot would cost me £306, vs £250 for 12 months of £15 Tiscali + £70 BT cancellation fee). Hmm, have to think about this. Nothing's ever easy, is it?

It is a strong word, but it fits as (working at BT) its becoming almost standard for people to be told this by 'certain' companies. IMO the advisors doing this are doing this on instruction as its too common to be a case of a couple misunderstanding.

(Actual cost would be £280 as Tiscali charge a £30 connection fee.)

If you value good customer service i would give Tiscali a miss.

Might i suggest you read this post to cut your calling charges, and get free evening calls as well as cheaper peak ,mobile and ngn calls. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=1598074&postcount=3
Cost BT Line Rental one year £126., and use a cheap broadband supplier http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-broadband#cheapest
Eg : Plusnet £120 one year. Total £246.

Also a general question - what are peoples average monthly home phone bills coming to? Feel free to break it down as line rental, call plans+ extra.
E.g. mine was £11 line rental+£17 call charges. Pretty shocking so far I think...
Next month hope to make it £11+£5 max.

Have you tried the Heinz plan.

    Points taken.

But Plusnet are only 1 gig/month (and more costs more) - Tiscali are unlimited. And with Tiscali evening/weekend national/international calls are free. Using Tiscali is simpler than BT for line rental, Plusnet for bb and several routers for calls.

Its debateable, we all have our own circumstances and preferences. No doubt if I went with Tiscali then had a torrid time, I'd regret it. Decisions decisions!!

These stupid 12+ month contracts don't help!!!

Has anyone experienced Yourcalls.net billing them incorrectly?
  • Any ideas pls, as I have just finished a contract with cable/virgin,which I will like to change. I have sky and will like to use the sky package (talk, broadband), but BT says I have to pay thier reconnection fee, even though there is a BT box in my house.

The BT wiring back to the exchange, the exchange connection, and the master socket need to be in place and working to qualify for free connection. If its not your have to pay full connection.

Sky now offer line rental they are able to get line connected.
