Is there something about IPO's that bring out the idiots?

IPOs do seem to turn a few "get rich quick" people into long term holders. :D
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

So it's ending the week about 205 which is a couple of percent away from where it IPO'd, ahead of full unconditional trading next week. So, no shirts lost, and no major free money. Just another week on the stock market. Nothing to see here guvnor.

Obviously in the first month of trading there will be potential stabilisation activities which can distort the market in their own way - JPM have about £10m overallotment option to play with as necessary. There were enough people willing to be in the market at 210p for them to move it to public ownership at that price. But with IPOs it's never clear whether that will be sustainable or represent an over- or under- valuation from the true, raw, 'active market' position which is only really visible in hindsight. And of course the company's overall value as a star or a dud may not be apparent for years to come.

Only if you are completely happy that the current price is an entirely reasonable price to pay for the potential risks and rewards, should you be a holder of this or any share. Of course, you don't have to be an expert to be a shareholder and there will be plenty of people who have no feeling for or knowledge of valuation principles who will be happy to buy at this price because others are doing so and the market is usually right (until, it's wrong). Most people are better with a strategy of employing a fund manager or taking exposure to a broad index of stocks.

my lot will go monday / tuesday - i've no desire to hold it.

I was only in-it for the short term, as i said up-front/ IPO's did well for me last year and i intend to continue with the same approach this year

But they aren't for 'kittens' i guess - best stick with the funds if thats your thing.
  • same here, will be happy if I break even on this one
