yeah - i'd have been keen on Trainline for the 'longer term', but KKR snapped it up. Its a great service, everyone like it - no surprise a PE group has stepped in!.
Interesting view on Laing and yield - it'll still be a short termer for me though.
I'm less convinced on the HSS IPO - there's no energy about it, no 'chat' about it which leads me to think it might not be so over-subscribed.0 -
thats interesting - only 25% likely - whats putting you off?
I already hold a fair chunk of their two infrastructure funds, and don't have the time at the moment to do much research. I guess you don't need to take a swing at every ball!I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -

fair enough and of course you don't have to swing at every one!
i'm light on infrastructure in the 'folio - although i have a holding in Costain who have done very well for me over the past year. But then, my intentions with Laing IPO are very different to yours.
Good luck!0 -
Well, we did the short term thing on Royal Mail, but Laing seem to know their stuff when it comes to turning capital into growing income streams, which works for me.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

I've applied for some of Laing, but giving HSS a miss - will be my first dabble in an IPO, but Laing looks like a decent company.
Not sure if I'll sell quickly if it jumps up, or keep for longer term, will see how it goes.0 -
welcome steelbru - all the very best for your IPO dabble.
one thing though - in my opinion, its best to decide if you are in it for the long term or just short term trading 'up front' - i.e. you are either short terming it and you either 'win' or 'lose' very quickly, or you are buying it of the longer haul and then don't concern yourself with the opening movements, one way or another.
I used to take your "see how it works out" approach, i think all it does is fry your nerves!0 -
I take it that certain brokers make it easy to subscribe to IPOs? I seem to recall HL were always sending me leaflets until I left them for CSD, who don't seem to mention IPOs much.0

Thanks gkerr4 - yeah, I maybe need to have a better defined strategy. I suppose what I meant was that I don't need to get the money back in a certain period of time, so if it dropped in the first few days I wouldn't want to sell at a loss. If the price rises then probably tempted to hold it for a bit and add to the portfolio. So now that I've written that down, looks like I'm holding on to the shares whether the price rises or falls !!
edinburgher - I'm with HL, and they only send you all the IPO stuff if you sign up for it, otherwise you don't get it.0 -
Hi all,
Is HSS worth a punt?

i'm going to have a go at it - first main market IPO (to retail investors) this year - might catch some attention.0
