if you are serious - then, honestly, if it opens a few % up just take it and bank the money - consider you've made a savings account annual interest in a few days.
IPO's are fun for me cos i can afford to lose the 'stake' (although i usually make a few quid) but they are no place for "life savings" (and usually i am the one with the "high risk strategy" on this board!

care to share a bit more? - i can't imagine a scenario where a broker would "warn away" from an IPO?
the Trainline IPO didn't get pulled btw - KKR bought them out lock.stock and barrel - a clear sign that the company has worth - i'd have loved some Trainline.com shares, but not to be.0 -

Sorry I meant to say investors not brokers
Investors are turning their backs on the £360million flotation of tool and equipment chain HSS Hire, according to City brokers.
The company is due to list on the Stock Exchange this week at 210p to 262p a share, but stock brokers are dismissing the offer as too high.
‘New companies are supposed to come to the stock market at a discount to their peers,’ said one broker. ‘But HSS seems to be priced at a premium. That looks greedy.’

The flotation’s prospects are further undermined by anger directed at private equity group Exponent, the firm that is selling HSS Hire.
Exponent was behind the aborted flotation of Trainline, the online ticketing group which announced earlier this month that it would be listing on the stock market.

any ideas what time these shares will be allocated to my share account as I was told it would be 4th feb, markets open in a few hours and im still waiting for my shares to be allocated
Does anyone know where to watch share prices live online, they all seem to have 15 min delay, the one i found is ADVFN .... is it live ? any thoughts ?
cheers0 -
Advfn is live for a few moments at a time unless you pay for a sub. Google finance is live for some markets. You probably can't trade until next week when unconditional dealing starts. Not that it matters, given you said you are in for 3-5 years0

not off to a great start it has to be said.... but not met my "ditch" limit either - see what unconditional trading brings...0

It has been bouncing around all morning, was as low as -7% , I almost hit the sell button.
I don't think i'm cut out for this, stressing me out, but as you say lets see what unconditional trading brings
If it goes to -8% before monday im out0 -
It's always fun to watch people who don't have a clue what they're doing gamble their life savings, even if they're only trolling. Good luck to all genuine investors.0

"My advice is that you should not buy IPOs at their initial offering price and that you should never buy an IPO just after it begins trading ... You will never be allowed to buy the really good IPOs at the initial offering price. The hot IPOs are snapped up by the big institutional investors or the very best wealthy clients of the underwriting firm. If your broker calls to say that IPO shares will be available for you, you can bet that the new issue is a dog. Only if the brokerage firm is unable to sell the shares to the big institutions and the best individual clients will you be offered a chance to buy at the initial offering price. Hence, it will systematically turn out that you will be buying only the poorest of the new issues. There is no strategy I am aware of likely to lose you more money, except perhaps the horse races or the gaming tables of Las Vegas." - Malkiel, Random Walk Down Wall Street.0
