I take a swing at most privatisations but not many IPOs.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

The final HSS Offer Price was set at 210p.

"My advice is that you should not buy IPOs at their initial offering price and that you should never buy an IPO just after it begins trading ... You will never be allowed to buy the really good IPOs at the initial offering price. The hot IPOs are snapped up by the big institutional investors or the very best wealthy clients of the underwriting firm. If your broker calls to say that IPO shares will be available for you, you can bet that the new issue is a dog. Only if the brokerage firm is unable to sell the shares to the big institutions and the best individual clients will you be offered a chance to buy at the initial offering price. Hence, it will systematically turn out that you will be buying only the poorest of the new issues. There is no strategy I am aware of likely to lose you more money, except perhaps the horse races or the gaming tables of Las Vegas." - Malkiel, Random Walk Down Wall Street.

what date is that quote? and to which market does it relate?

IMO, and IME, this is total nonsense for main-market, LSE new IPO listings!
  • I'm a pro trader and bought into the HSS IPO

Today the shares opened at 207p and closed at 210p, which was the IPO price

If you want to compare HSS to other companies on the stock market look at Ashtead PLC and Speedyhire, they have both made massive, massive gains, they are both tool and equipment hire companies.

A very big order was filled during the morning and the market maker allowed the prices to drop for that to go ahead. Towards the end of the day it rallied. It looks like it could add another 3-5% tomorrow throughout the space of a day.

HSS has big expansion plans and that will lead to good news and a higher valuation.

If you are thinking of buying, do it early but don't bet the house on any one company. If you have 10k of savings, then 1k in each share is enough.

    What's a pro trader?

What relevance does it have to an amateur investor?

Is there something about IPO's that bring out the idiots?
