So you left for your holiday on thursday at 3pm, and told work you were still looking after your daughter on friday?

Is it plausible that your Facebook post could imply you flew out friday evening?

Nope and even if it was, I didn't go into work on Friday, which was the day they rejected my unpaid leave

I don't have to keep justifying myself but she woke up at 6am with sharp stabbing pains, THIS is when I called an ambulance because she asked me to. She threw up and the pains subsided but paramedics wanted to take her to hospital. She was discharged 10am with no diagnosis and suspected food poisoning.

So we've established that your daughter's illness has nothing to do with you telling lies to your employer and taking unauthorised absence. It's completely irrelevant to the situation.

With regard to what you are going to do - take any work you can. Sign up with agencies and tell them you'll take anything you can get. Your JSA is likely to be sanctioned so you need to find something urgently.
  • You should be able to access the medical records from your daughters admission - this may help your case.

Lots and lots of humble pie, reflection and assurances that this will never happen again.

Check your local disciplinary policy, it will give you an indication of what action is likely to be taken I.e. If this is a first offence and you have a good reovirus record you MAY get away with a final written warning.

Try googling Labour Research Department. If you can't get representation any other way you may find some helpful information there.

  • OP you're a silly silly sausage! But we all make daft mistakes.

I reckon whether you're sacked or not, depends on how much they want to get rid of you. That's probably not written in stone anywhere, but in my experience, this is what goes down in the workplace.

Eg; if you are someone who is on a pretty high wage, and/or you're someone who regularly does not pull your weight, then they will most likely get rid of you.

If you are a valuable worker, then this reason seems a silly one to sack you. A written warning yes, but sacking (if you have never done anything else wrong) seems harsh.

But I also know that when you work for a council, they are GREAT to work for: lots of perks, good pay, good pensions, good holidays etc... but if you screw up - even slightly - they become very unpleasant and turn against you very easily. I have seen this happen to two friends this past 2 years. And a neighbour about 5 years ago.

They are a good body to work for, but really turn on you if you break the rules.

Good luck. You will need to really grovel, admit you're wrong, promise it will never happen again, and hopefully they'll give you another chance.

One of my friends got another chance, after 'breaking the rules' last year, but now she is really uneasy there, as she says she feels they are always watching her. She is currently looking for another job, but a 'final written' on her record does NOT go in her favour.

As someone said earlier, once you screw up with someone like the council, it's hard to get in with a similar employer, or to get a job as good.
No debt left now. Saved £111 in our sealed pot last year. And £272.13 this year! Also we have £2300 in savings. :j

My work wants proof I was with her, the hospital does not give out notes like this and I don't want anyone to access her private medical records. We will see what happens.

Personally I think the line the op should take will depend entirely on the amount of time she was awol.

If it was the one day, after 3pm, and if she was with her daughter in hospital until 3pm, its a little different from taking a week.

It was one day, unpaid too & a friday. I think this is more about a breach of trust and confidence and i understand that.

Then get it one way or other. Saving your job may depend on it.

Your daughter can request a copy of her medical records via the PALS team at the hospital. Alternatively her GP will have received notification of her admission, your GP surgery may be willing to provide her with a copy of it.

I wish you the very best of luck.

Your daughter being in hospital is irrelevant as you had every intention of going away, so it would not help your case to focus on the issue.
12 years employment and no other disciplinaries in the closet at help, but in all fairness would your employer or colleagues trust you again?.
If you do lose your job your life won't be over and work will always be found even if it's a small corner shop who would employ without asking too many questions.
Failing that you have a fiance so this suggests he is around for the long haul and therefore prepared to support the woman he is planning on marrying.

Maybe your GP will write a note saying 'Miss Dazed Jr was admitted to hospital on x date, and discharged the same day into the care of her mother.'

Its not too dissimilar to the note she might need for college and my GP does them for about £10
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
