Windows 8.5 is Rubbish.

For some reason unknown to me my Toshiba satellite laptop (2013 model) has auto updated from windows 7 to 8.5. It is awful I much preferred the 7 and I don't know how to get rid of it. What happened was when I switched on my laptop I got a message saying it was going into a auto windows update (I never asked to download 8.5) it updates about once every 2 months and was always on windows 7 but this happened just before Christmas. I have heard from others the 8.5 is dire what can I do?.

There is no such thing as Windows 8.5. There is Windows 8 and 8.1. A computer will never automatically update from one version of Windows to another - for example 7 to 8.

Windows 7 cannot be upgrade to Windows 8 (possibly you may mean 8.1) by an automatic download without any user interaction, at the very least it needs a different product key to be purchased and entered and you to select various options to perform the upgrade.

Does the start screen look a conventional windows desktop, or has it got a lot of blocks or tiles on it?
If its got the Tiles it may have upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 but that should be a minor upgrade.

It it went from a old style desktop to the tiles type interface then its most likely been done by someone else who had access to the device.

Who are these "others" who seem to have heard of a version of Windows that doesn't exist and never will now that Windows 10 is on its way? It's early in the life of the thread but I'm thinking troll already.

I heard the same thing from others about Windows 8.1.

    They were wrong.

If its really 8.5 then that suggests a trojan or other malware .

I don't think 8.5 exists for Windows Phones either.

I heard that some PCs and some Phones have been automatically been updated to Windows 9.6 but I can't find it using my pager? Perhaps the search engine freaks could tell me why.

Mind you my pager is not a Toshiba Satellite (1990 model) Computer says no , perhaps the OP will come back and enlighten us what he/she really means:eek:
