That was the reason the company mightve used, but not the reason they got sacked....

Seriously, you think employers are sacking good workers left and right? think again

You can get sacked for something even as small as a £139 loss, but most companies won't sack someone for this, unless they want to get rid of them. If the OP's husband is useless, then this will be the perfect opportunity to get shot of him.

I'm sorry for you Faith, and wish you well, but I don't think anyone can give you much advice, as you need to decide for yourself whether you want to stay with this man, especially as he has such an awful mother who seems to be controlling him.

And don't let him spend anything without your consent, as long as he is not working. (If he DOES lose the job.)

Are you married by the way? Any children?
    You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:

Sounds like terrible workplaces to be honest. Most people where we work come in when they like, go home when they like and pop to the shops mid am or mid pm for personal shopping and banking whilst having a full hour at the desk for lunch.

If I was OH, just offer to repay the loss and apologise formally.

I would love to know where this place is.

I have worked at about 25 places in my life (15 of them over 2 years, whilst I was a temp in London in the late 1990s,) and I have never worked anywhere where you could 'come in when you like' and 'leave when you like' and pop off to do personal shopping mid morning or mid afternoon whenever it suits, and still have a full hour for lunch. When does anyone ever get any work done?

Surely you jest. A place like this does not exist.

I love him to pieces he just drives me insane sometimes :) all in all our marriage is a happy one we just seem to have more than our fair share of rubbish sometimes.

We don't have kids was hoping to clear of debt this year and starting ttc next year (think that's another reason I was so annoyed yesterday)

I think because his dad passed away he feels it's his job to look after his mum and because he always helped her before we got together she just kind of expects him to always be there. He has stopped paying for a lot of her stuff for example he use to pay for her mobile phone, internet and landline amongst other things but she finally took those over last year

He is going to go in cap in hand and basically beg for forgiveness and then we just have to see

I'd like to work at your place TBeckett I can't even have a doctors appointment without making up the time and if I'm even going to be a couple of minutes late I have to ring my tl

My work place is similar. I have two fantastic bosses. I also do a fantastic job.

So for example when my filling fell out last week, I booked an appointment and went to it. Told them in the morning but none of this time owed crap.

DO NOT GO BEGGING CAP IN HAND.

Seriously that accepting the job is lost. If it is, begging won't help. If it's 50/50 this will sway in the wrong direction. Is there a letter???

I'm still not convinced that this is the case, as it's £139 not £13,900!

No no letter has been given they said they would ring today or tomorrow following the investigation but no call today so think it'll be tomorrow before we know any more

No definitely £139 I know OH wouldn't lie about the amounts

  • Usually invoicing errors can be corrected with credit or debit notes.., so no loss is made. They're not desirable, but they definitely happen.

Obviously what the company does can't be controlled but if your husband makes it clear what he can do to make sure the error never happens again, it will help. Quite often we learn a huge amount from errors so they turn out to be of benefit.

Try to encourage him to be apologetic, acknowledging what he's done wrong but also as confident as he can be that he has learned from the experience and is worth keeping on the payroll (without being arrogant). If he talks about it like a shambling defeated idiot, it won't help
