  • Here's a clue, it rhymes with funny laundering.
    DEBT FREE!

    Debt free by Xmas 2014: £3555.67/£4805.67 (73.99%)
    Debt free by Xmas 2015: £1250/£1250 (100.00%)
  • You can't.

From the sounds of it, your son's account has been receiving funds that have been obtained fraudulently, whether or not your son is a party to that fraud is irrelevant. The bank is entitled to close that account.

I get that, but how comes all the below happens as a result of him being the victim of fraud...do you guys not think its unfair though?...or is it just me, or is it not really worth going on about cause it is what it is.....

So...due to the bank account fraud...

    - he cannot get his funds back for up to 60days
    - he cannot open a bank with lloyds for 4years
    - his current account is closed so I have to look for another bank - sooner rather than later before the bad credit name hits his status
    - his name will come up as blacklisted on credit searches..

Very strange....for those in the know...why would someone put money INTO the account? Its just so bizarre...

Very common procedure, dodgy money in, nice clean money out.

I doubt if your son will be able to open an account anywhere else as I would expect Lloyds to have flagged the fraudulent activity with CIFAS. Perhaps when he's older a local Credit Union may be an option if you have one, but for now he'll be in the cash economy.

    Hi Everyone

Cut a long story short the title of the thread is the problem.

My 14year old son has bank account with Lloyds, all running smoothly until we get a letter saying his account is overdrawn. Turns out the bank account has been used for fraud.

After running up and down to the Bank today they tell me that the account is now closed, he cannot open a bank account with them until he's 16, and of top of that the savings that he built up in there he cannot get for 60days :mad:

This cannot be right surely, they said they can terminate a bank account for no reason, do not have to have a reason as its in the terms and conditions & thier is no real recourse to complain!!! What is this? So my sons account has been hacked through now fault of his own, basically the victim, but he is getting all the this unfair treatment.

Is this right, and how can I take it further? I am not a complainer by any sort, but surely this can't be right. The bank acknowledge its fraud so why are they doing this?

    Please help me guys!!
From reading the thread it would appear that they can as the account is being used for money laundering which means they can and should close the account.

As for the question of opening another account, that'll be a no go for now, wait until they investigate it fully and clear him of wrong doing.

Also why is he getting £4 a week? It doesn't seem worth it.

Whilst I would be the last person to usually defend a bank, and I do understand your frustrations, you have to try to see things from the bank point of view.

I feel the missing card not being reported is the crux of this really.

How do you explain "£1560 Deposit (in) 09/01" and "£574.00 Deposit (12/01)" then?
Unless by "dodgy" you mean physically dirty/marked or even fake...

I don't think that a bank is the best place for laundering marked/fake money.

I don't think even the bank know whats happened. They think the bank account was either cloned...or more than likely its something to do with the card but I don't understand how. My son never had his pin with the card

Its all very strange. I have had an official bank statement through, so some of the debit/credits marked as PAY or DEB were from bank statements printed off the the customer service desk.

The official statements says things like:
    £1.00 - Faster Payment (in) 05/01
    £25.03 - Debit Card (out) 06/01
    £220.00 Faster Payment (in) 06/01
    £190.00 Cashpoint (out) 06/01
    £17.50 Transfer (in) 06/01
    £10.00 Cashpoint (out) 07/01
    £5.00 Debit Card (out) 07/01
    £215.00 Faster Payment (in) 07/01
    9.00 Faster Payment (out) 07/01
    £220.00 Cashpoint (out) 08/01
    0.01 - Faster Payment (in) 08/01
    £5.30 Debit Card (out) 08/01
    £1560 Deposit (in) 09/01
    £251.75 Cashpoint (out) 09/01
    £251.75 Cashpoint (out) 09/01
    £0.21 Debit Card (out) 09/01
    £1.99 Debit Card out) 09/01
    £574.00 Deposit (12/01)

Very strange....for those in the know...why would someone put money INTO the account? Its just so bizarre...
I don't work for a bank but that pattern of spending would defintiely raise a few eyebrows, with regular daily deposits of varying and (large) amounts, the quick withdrawals after, and 2x the same amount of "cashpoint" withdrawals all for a U19 account! Sounds like it has been withdrawn over the counter as no cashpoint gives £1.75 in change!

No, but some do charge fees which will likely account for the odd amounts.
