Hi Everyone

Cut a long story short the title of the thread is the problem.

My 14year old son has bank account with Lloyds, all running smoothly until we get a letter saying his account is overdrawn. Turns out the bank account has been used for fraud.

After running up and down to the Bank today they tell me that the account is now closed, he cannot open a bank account with them until he's 16, and of top of that the savings that he built up in there he cannot get for 60days :mad:

This cannot be right surely, they said they can terminate a bank account for no reason, do not have to have a reason as its in the terms and conditions & thier is no real recourse to complain!!! What is this? So my sons account has been hacked through now fault of his own, basically the victim, but he is getting all the this unfair treatment.

Is this right, and how can I take it further? I am not a complainer by any sort, but surely this can't be right. The bank acknowledge its fraud so why are they doing this?

Please help me guys!!

  • They must believe he is part of the fraud even if only as a mule without his knowledge.
Did you know what he was surfing/viewing on the internet?

Try giving us a little more information about what has happened please.

I wonder if there's more to this.
  • Thier really is no other background to what happened. They said that his account details have been hacked by a 3rd party. The person was using his account as a 'carrier' account - dropping in amounts of cash then making withdrawls on it.

My son was only getting 4.00 per week then spending it on silly things like kfc, mcdonals and shops like that, all of a sudden money was being put in and taken out (only found this out when asking for a statement) constantly.

My son does use the net but nothing he would have to pay for and he wouldn't put his card details in anywhere - he probably woudn't even know how. They think the account was probably cloned through the card.

Even if they thought he was an unwitting mule why would they make HIM pay the price? The bank manager said its easier for them to just close the account and put a stop now. This is as simple as it is..I wish I could tell you different!! But I really can't accept this - he hasn't done anything. I don't even mind so much about the account - just more hassle. but he can't even get his money - its just out of order (sorry to ramble - I'm really annoyed)

yes they do - its an under 19's saver account. He went into overdraw balance of #23.16 didn't no anything about it until we recieved a letter from the bank about being overdraw.
  • Heres some recent transactions to the account
up until 02/01/15 everything was fine..4.00 put in every friday through my direct debit

    then....05/01 #1.00 was put in
    06/01 25.03 taken out
    06/01 -220.00 put in
    06/01 -190.00 taken out
    06/01 - 17.50 put in
    07/01 - 10.00 taken out
    07/01 - 5.00 taken out
    07/01 - 215.00 put in
    07/01 - 9.00 put in
    08/01 - 220 put in

& so it goes on - multiply transactions going on in one day - they even put 1560.00 on 09/01

I don't what they did or how they did it, but my son is feeling the hit!!

How was the money leaving his account? And looking at those transactions, it looks like there was far more going in than out.
