  • I made a complaint to lloyds. But they will not budge. They state because he didn't report the card lost or stolen, it is due to his negligence that the bank lost money. (He didn't know it was lost or stolen - he uses it probably once every few weeks) I am not accepting that and will be taking it further, not sure how far I will get, but the fact his name will now also be blacklisted for 4-6yrs I just can't have that.

So...due to the bank account fraud...

    - he cannot get his funds back for up to 60days
    - he cannot open a bank with lloyds for 4years
    - his current account is closed so I have to look for another bank - sooner rather than later before the bad credit name hits his status
    - his name will come up as blacklisted on credit searches..

I know everyone is saying double check with him and all that, but I cannot emphasise enough its just not him - obviously you guys could be thinking he could well be in on this - but its just not the case. I wouldn't be taking it the ombudsman if this was the case.

Unfortunately even if nothing untoward shows yet in consumer-visible CRA data, any bank would already be able to see a CIFAS marker if he has one....
  • How could withdrawals from this account be made over counter at a bank, if they didn't have the debit card for the account?

Ah -so this is new info...that his debit card is missing so either lost or stolen.

So from what I'm reading on this thread it's now not an account being hacked but withdrawals though a stolen debit card
What about the PIN then? - how was that acquired by the fraudsters.
  • Thanks Block10...I am going to see the bank manager tommorow, but he made it pretty clear, the decision was final!!

How do I flag this up to a lloyds rep?!

sorry to clog up this forum, I just want some help.

    You can't.

You can make a complaint about it, but it won't be upheld. From the sounds of it, your son's account has been receiving funds that have been obtained fraudulently, whether or not your son is a party to that fraud is irrelevant. The bank is entitled to close that account.

  • I would echo the advice to get him to open another account with a non-Lloyds group (so not Lloyds, Halifax, or Bank of Scotland - and probably not TSB as I think they still datashare to an extent), as soon as possible.

As another avenue - if all the transactions were in branch, Lloyds will have times that they took place. Get the times. Was he in school at the time they were done?

That shouldn't be the case. You would expect these to be card transactions, in which case they would be listed under DEB (not PAY) and the last 4 digits would also appear in the description.

PAY definitely indicates cash withdrawals from the counter at the bank. Usually the description will include the branch name and sort code - unless somebody has been trying to hide something.

The left over could be the account holders commission. Quite typical in cases of amateur fraud/ml involving young account holders.

No, he is under 16 so he won't have any Internet Banking details.
The transactions will be manually processed because they will have been pending debit card transactions when the account got blocked.

Do you mean online banking details?

No I meant the child could have been blackmailed into sending the card and PIN to a third party.

I see the thread has now moved on and the card is missing (interesting) which I was unaware of when I wrote my original post.

I don't think even the bank know whats happened. They think the bank account was either cloned...or more than likely its something to do with the card but I don't understand how. My son never had his pin with the card

Its all very strange. I have had an official bank statement through, so some of the debit/credits marked as PAY or DEB were from bank statements printed off the the customer service desk.

The official statements says things like:
    £1.00 - Faster Payment (in) 05/01
    £25.03 - Debit Card (out) 06/01
    £220.00 Faster Payment (in) 06/01
    £190.00 Cashpoint (out) 06/01
    £17.50 Transfer (in) 06/01
    £10.00 Cashpoint (out) 07/01
    £5.00 Debit Card (out) 07/01
    £215.00 Faster Payment (in) 07/01
    9.00 Faster Payment (out) 07/01
    £220.00 Cashpoint (out) 08/01
    0.01 - Faster Payment (in) 08/01
    £5.30 Debit Card (out) 08/01
    £1560 Deposit (in) 09/01
    £251.75 Cashpoint (out) 09/01
    £251.75 Cashpoint (out) 09/01
    £0.21 Debit Card (out) 09/01
    £1.99 Debit Card out) 09/01
    £574.00 Deposit (12/01)

Very strange....for those in the know...why would someone put money INTO the account? Its just so bizarre...
