If the road is safe there shouldn't be a problem.
My two walked home from school, in company with other kids as soon as they were in the junior school.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -

Why do you think there is an issue? nothing you've said raises alarms with me, though I'm not there to see.
Many of us used to walk to school. I know I walked a mile or so.0 -

I've contacted the council and they haven't done anything about it so I contacted my local councillor and he just said phone the council.
So who would you contact next as anything could happen to the girl.
At 6 I was walking home from school on my own, a distance of 1.5 miles, from one village, to the next. I then went and got my key out of the potting shed, and let myself in.
At 7 I was then getting my bike out and cycling 3 miles up and down a country lane to the edge of the local town, where I did a piano lesson and then cycled home.
At 9 I was making the family tea (when it was my turn) which included me making real chips.
At 5 I knew not to talk to strangers and my 7 year old sister would walk me home from school.
Roll on 40 years and you want to report someone for cruelty ? Child neglect ?
Can I respectfully suggest that you probably want to worry about something else.0 -

You don't need to contact anyone.0 -

If nothing is being done by the escort, or the driver, or the councillor; maybe that's because everything's fine!
I mean, as some have said already, how far is the 7 year old walking to the school bus? I bet it is not more than a couple of minutes walk.
How far is it?Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!
You're not singing anymore........ You're not singing any-more!0 -
Why wouldn't a 7 year old walk to/from a school or school bus on their own?0

This is what the council said.
All operators know that children in the primary age have to be handed over to parents at all times. If there is no parent at the collection point, operators are told to contact us so we can get hold of the parents.0 -
What about kids who don't use transport and just walk home from primary school? Are you telling me they can't walk home from school on their own?! If the parent is happy to let them have some independence then why not let them walk home from the bus on their own? If the council states a parent must be there to collect the child then the bus company should be alerting the school and let the council contact the parent if it really is such an issue. The issue is the bus company not doing their job and telling the council by the sounds of it unless the parent has already contacted the school to tell them they cannot always be there to collect their child? You've contacted them so leave it in their hands to deal with it.0

It's not your concern. It's nothing to do with you.
Leave it to the Council and the operator as according to you they have it covered.0 -

This is madness. A 7 year old should be fully capable of walking home on their own, letting themselves in, and making a sandwich or something if they have to wait a few hours for their parents.
Isn't that what 7 year olds have been doing forever.0
