JReacher, Powerful_Rogue & others: PLEASE STOP your bickering and petty point-scoring. Please. It makes you seem more foolish than you clearly are & is incredibly tiresome.
I think that crime, risk, etc., is much as it ever was - it's just that there are more widespread outlets for the reporting & dissemination of incidents these days.
