So you want all children locked indoors, all the time, just in case?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
What a non problem.
All this angst about known there "maybe" known. sex offenders ...
Newsflash Known sex are ermmm known which means they are monitored as per their registration on the sex offenders list. Doh !
Oh and I walked to college everyday blissfully unaware I was wandering past the home of a serial killer ..and im still here (honest)
Sounds to me like a busybody with too much time and not enough to do ... The reason the council don't care its because its a non issue.Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...
Pet Peeves.... queues, vain people and hypocrites ..not necessarily in that order.0 -

As most child abuse happens at home - either a relation or a family friend - that wouldn't guarantee a child's safety.0 -

I used to get 2 buses to and from school and walk between the stops for them across the biggest city in Scotland when I was 7.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

What worries me is that information getting out to people who get mixed up between a pædophile and a paediatrician. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

OP, what do you want to happen?
Social Services to speak with the mother? What if they speak to her and she still says "I'm happy for my daughter to walk from the bus stop to our house and will continue to let her do so."
What would you want them to do then?0 -
OP, I think you have three options...
1. Speak to the child's parent.
2. Speak to the school.
3. Do nothing.
It sounds like you don't want to do number 1 or 3. And you've already done number 2.
Now I don't know the timescale of when you spoke to the head and when he expects something to have been done about it. It may be time for you to let him know that nothing has changed.
He may think that he has sorted the situation and be unaware that the child is still walking by themselves.
Or he may have spoken to people and realised that the situation is perfectly acceptable (or at least not worth any further bother).
Or he may still be in the process of sorting it out.
Once the head is dealing with it I think you need to take a step backwards from the situation. If the parent is happy, the child appears to be happy and the head is happy then I don't think you need to concern youself about it.
Alternatively, if you do still want to help then speak to the child's parent and offer to walk them home from the bus stop.
Also, if you haven't done so, you may like to put your concerns to the school in writing and keep a copy. [I would do this by email and take a response to be confirmation that it had been read.] At least that way if anything does happen to the child it will be documented that the alarm was raised.0 -

Because its 8 years old. The child being mentioned wasn't even born when that news article was published!
Your post was absolutely pointless.
I am surprised you didn't post something about latchkey children...0 -

What do you think has changed so much in 8 or 40 years. Everything I can think of is safer now than it was in the past.0
