    I understand all you say.
Could not much of this fiasco have been avoided, if NS&I had allowed pre-registration or staggered their email announcements, without any major changes to their server?
After all, they have known about this as long as I have, some ten months?

I think they must be staggering their email announcements or have lost the records altogether because I registered to receive their email announcement weeks ago but I've not had one yet.

Well, although NS&I may not have told you, and they won't let most of us buy them, at least you know now.

Just called NSANDI on 01253840007, got straight through to "Joanne"
She sold me 10k bond, no problem. AMAZED !!

Had to use my security details though. Plus she asked where I got her number (Say no to 0870)

I managed to get the first joint application through at 8.30, then I tried for the other one and it has been a very trying time, many many blank screens and timing out periods.

I did eventually get through right to the end and my bank blocked payment in case of fraud. I rang the bank and was on there for a good 20 minutes, they wanted loads of details such as a road nearby which is a first for me. I was timed out again and redid the application after half an hour, the verified by visa box said that it could not be used. So yet another failed attempt.

I transferred the money to my other bank and fortunately that was through in 10 minutes. I redid the application via firefox and it halted on the joint account details.

I eventually succeeded to get the second joint application finished via google and my second bank went through with no problem at all. I have both e mail confirmations now

You need buckets of patience and the process really isn`t for the faint hearted

roflmao. Pre-registration would have created the same Black-Friday-type manic rush, resulting in system meltdown, plus it would have cost a lot of extra taxpayer's money to implement.

As to staggering the emails: how would you stop the papers and the news and social media telling everyone at the same time? And what about the uproar from people like yourself immediately complaining that they weren't amongst the first who received their emails?

The only way this fiasco, as you call it, could have been avoided if people were sensible and didn't all try to rush in at once.

How exactly do you conclude that?

Confirmation email and receipt for transaction 15 mins later. Good luck to others trying.

In the meantime, it's a bit like a million people fighting to get through a set of turnstiles at the same time. If everyone fights to be first it will take a lot longer.

    That's why someone invented tickets.
If they know it's going to be a lottery they could have drawn the tickets in advance, and then allocated them in a fair and orderly way.
