I'm a bit shocked at some of the things listed on this thread that people don't enter on the grounds of ethics, what is unethical about cheese? spa breaks and Rafflecopters? to name a few.

could be ethical if someone is vegan...

(although I doubt that is the reason most won't enter because of).

    Never:

    Mumsnet (and similar)
    Gransnet
    Wonga (and similar)
Fur comps, or where I see they're selling fur
Instagram (only because I can't join on my lappy. This may change if/when I try again with my tablet at some point)

    Almost never:

Kids, family and student comps (The very rare exceptions have to meet two criteria: 1) Something I REALLY want, and where I don't have to lie/pretend that I have kids or am a student)
Holidays, DVDs, Books, CDs (unless for something I'm very specifically wanting - doesn't happen often)
    Purchase required
    Photo
Weddings (unless it's for someone I know getting married, or very, very rarely if it's a wedding magazine comp, but it's just a random draw for something I want, where it's like entering from any other magazine that I don't read. This will apply to other categories too. So I will enter gay comps, etc, if I don't feel I'm being dishonest/pretending)
Signed stuff (unless it's signed by someone I'd genuinely want to collect, or possibly if it was a real biggie prize. For a car or iPad I'd put up with it being signed by 1D :D, or sell it to a real [STRIKE]moron[/STRIKE] fan, and buy myself a 'clean' version)

    Very interesting thread BTW :T

  • Impressive explaining yourelf out of that hole surrounding weddings there Blulu. As a male of the homosexual variety I actually think it's fair game entering the odd one of 'my' comps considering the volume I enter of 'yours'. All is fair in love & war, or something in that vein.

We all maybe have to consider gayers weddings too now that Tiffany are targetting the pink pound. Get your game on I say! Though I shiver in fear of the blogs yet to arrive in that arena. Eesh imagine!

I can't understand why so many folks say they don't do radio comps because they don't want to go "live on air", I won one last year and got £200.

The phone rang at 6.30am and the convo went something like this.

DJ: Hi can I speak to Mandy (Surname)
    Me: Speaking
DJ: This is Joe Bloggs from 123 radio station you entered a competition with us last week and I am calling to tell you you have won £200
    Me: Really, that's great
DJ: What we need to do Mandy is prerecord a 10 second message
    Me: OK
DJ: I am going to do that now
    Me: OK
(Then he comes back with his extra jolly radio voice)
DJ: Good morning Mandy this is Joe Bloggs from 123 radio, I am calling because you entered the Blah Blah competition with us last week and you have won £200
Me: Wow that's great, thank you
DJ: What will you be spending the money on Mandy?
Me: I will probably put it towards my holiday spending money
DJ: Well done Mandy you are a radio 123 winner
    Me: Thank You
Then he comes back with his normal voice
DJ: That's it Mandy all done, you will receive a cheque from 123 radio in the next 28 days.
    Me: Lovely Thanks
DJ: Keep listening to 123 radio, bye
    Me: Bye

From the phone ringing to me putting it back down it was no more than 3 minutes!!

I was never "live on air" it was a 10 second recorded message, if a mistake was made it could have been recorded again.

    Anyone could do that ;)

At 6.30am he was lucky I didn't answer the phone and tell him to go forth and multiply :rotfl:

I will leave the screaming for the 1D girlies ;)

LOL ooh, did I 'out' you? YAY, something else I can tick off the bucket list :D Personally, I doubt 'our brothers in pink' could do worse than the standard blogs, and they'd prob have a lot more flair.

Mansy, I usually avoid the 'live on air' too. Mainly cos I won't be able to rely on you lot to help out with the questions
