I've been contemplating how often I hover over a comp having a near ethical meltdown over whether or not to enter. Great prize! But it feels like selling my soul!!! :A

Certain companies have had rather public trawlings through the main MSE site and still we share their comps. Fair do's some think as it takes from them instead. But these days we trade our connections on social networks. Even recently I saw rear end ointment. Brings new perspective to 'make it go viral'!:o

Anyway, I'm interested to see some of the reasons or types of comps some of you steer clear of entering. In unity through our differences?

I'll go first:

Loan sharks - never
double glazing - never
weddings - never
disabled - never
kids - never
family holidays - come on think of the space on the plane!
awful music - I'll have you know my taste is impeccable
drab clothes - see above
poor quality products - come on you can tell
blindingly awful website design - nightmare inducing
CDs, DVDs, Books - this is 2015 books are way too heavy
Ornaments - burn them
Students (that one is a sometimes)
Outside of my geographical area (I enter but feel squeamish)
Holidays near any exes hometowns - although now thinking about it..
Blogs (a recent addition but they really !!!! ;))
Ones I forget I enter then win and can't go and have no time to tell them so it goes to waste. I sometimes ponder if I am denied heaven because of that one)
Women's magazine - odd one this and highly dependent on volume of near hourly pointless emails they send.

Right, your turn..

I will never ever enter anything sponsored / provided by the Sun. It's a disgusting amoral rag and I would feel dirty even clicking on a link to their site, never mind owning something that they'd provided. So any of their comps are a no no.

I also don't enter anything run by payday loan companies and the like, as they usually involve liking them on Facebook which I'm not prepared to do. Similarly never enter comps run by Bingo sites or pages.

I never go for blinds / shutters as you just know you'd be bombarded with sales calls. As social media goes, I'm only on Facebook so don't/cant enter any Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram etc comps.
I therefore enter very VERY few Rafflecopters as they always want you to jump through a dozen hoops.
And I refuse to do FB like and shares unless it's a really fab prize. I may perhaps do one or two a week at most. Can't be a***d clogging up people's news feeds with shares.

As for prize categories, I never enter for:
    Baby stuff
    Pet related
Fishing / horse riding / crafting / other hobbies I have no interest in
    Wedding stuff

    bloggers
    baby comps
ao.com (their adverts annoyed me so won't use them)
dvd's - does anyone NOT download (can't get more mse than that ;) )
    most 'fashion' clothing
anything to do with crafts, horses, fishing, weddings (unless jewellry)
    anything fitness that involves running
cakes and anything to do with bloody cakes - no wonder the nation is so fat
    anything more north than watford
and absolutly anything that will involve a 'selfie'
and any comps where you have to be under or over a certain age ;)

i do however enter the sun comps and won twice - then again i'm not from the north west
  • The Scum and the Daily Fail I pray before I enter so I think I'm ok?

Think I'm getting to choosey in my old age

    I avoid -
    Loans/betting/double glazing/family breaks/holidays/blogs
Spa breaks give me the creeps
    Weddings/kids/gay/disabled
    CD/DVD/Blu-ray
    Rafflecopter/Gleam/Pinterest/Instagram
    Meals/sports tickets unless local
    Clothes/shoes unless vouchers and
not vouchers if for a company I've never heard of

I'm sure there are more but I avoid those for ethical as well as disinterest reasons.
  • Selfies. Yes that was clearly meant to be in my list too!! It's like we have just discovered cameras. Narcissus would be so proud. Prouder anyway.

Scrummy Mummy blogs can someone even explain the concept to me? Is Mumsnet to blame there? Oh no a personally internalised ethics battle rising here I can tell already.

Oh a confession.. I have a sewing machine under my bed gathering dust. I really am scum lol.

    .

Mumsnet is just a really angry coffee morning full of stay at home mums, the hormonal and those that have just come 'out of a bad relationship'

Comps where you have to do surveys/vote on something - if it's quite generic, I'll often do it (as long as it won't take too long!). But if it's quite a specific survey/vote (eg about "my" visit to a shop, "my" thoughts on a magazine I've never read or a website or product I've never used), then I give it a miss. Just seems a bit skeevy to potentially skew results, especially when it might be a small business genuinely trying to do some market research/win an award.

Maybe everyone feels the same as me, but I do wonder sometimes when I see comps like this :D
