Halfords We Fit - Vent.

My idea of a non-excessive price is not 70% of the price of the item I'm having fitted. I probably would have been satisfied at a fiver, then it was 50%. I know it's only a couple
Bit of a silly statement that. What about a new timing belt, kit about £50, fitting £2-300, Head gasket - <£20 fitting anything from £300-1000. and the list will go on
Cost of fitting bears no relationship to the cost of a part.
Halfords offer a one price for all on bulb fitting, on many cars it takes 2 minutes but on some it can take an hour. It will balance out so that halfords make a profit on the fitting but it will not be as much as you would think.0 -

You are also paying for time and fitting for things like those. I doubt they would be done as quick as this bulb change.
That's what I was annoyed about in terms of a £10 bulb. If it took ages I would be less annoyed.
I know they need to make a profit, I know they do a one price fits all, but I am still allowed to go "that was a PITA, at least I know for next time"
It's not like I'm saying "WARNING NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN" - I was just venting at my experience. Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

To be fair, the cost of a part bears no relation to the time taken to fit it. I think £6.99 is a reasonable price to have something like that fitted for you. At least you've seen how to fit it yourself now.0

It's well worth the money to watch someone else get cold & wet while taking the skin off his knuckles & teaching me some swear words I'd never heard before.
I don't get the comparison of the price of the part with the labour cost. Sometimes it's just labour with no parts, should that be free?Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -

Or an extremely expensive part that is quickly fitted, so fitting is very cheap. Tyres can cost £100 or more, but are generally fitted 'free' or for £5/£10. Are you saying you would be happy to pay £30/50 to have a £100 tyre fitted?0 -
I've said on another thread that I suffer with anxiety when it comes to driving and my car, so I needed it sorting asap for my own peace of mind. They did that for me, no bother, and I will now be doing them myself.
I am allowed to be annoyed about it.
If your Anxiety is reduced by having someone else do it for you, then id would consider that £6.99 is an even bigger bargain.
The price to fit bears absolutely no relation to the value of the bulb.. you could have bought £30 all singing and dancing bulbs, but the cost to fit would have remained £6.99.0 -

Anxiety wasn't reduced because someone else did it. Anxiety was reduced because I wouldn't be pulled over for having one bulb out had I left it. (I know, it's silly)Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

I looked into Halfords bulb fitting when I got pulled over one night and didn't realise one of my headlight bulbs had gone, and they quoted me £25 including the bulb.
I bought the one I needed from Wilkinson for around £5 and took it to my usual garage who actually fitted it for free, and this was at about 6pm!
If you've got a good enough mechanic, they'll charge you very little or even nothing for something simple.0 -
I am also still confused about the relationship between the cost of the part and the cost of the fitting..the 2 are not linked in any way.
as has been said it could have been zero for parts but still a cost to do the work

This thread reminds me of a joke I saw on tinterwebz the other day. Someone posted THIS pic, and said 'Errrm no you don't'
FWIW Lulu, £6.99 does seem a lot for a two minute job, but to be honest, I would rather pay that, and have it done correctly. Plus, as some posters have said; it can be difficult to fit the bulb yourself...Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!
You're not singing anymore........ You're not singing any-more!0
