This is true. Point taken. Not honeymoon though, they are off somewhere else after Greece.

Often there's little difference between scheduled and charter flights.... Try putting the flight into skyscanner with more limited dates eg long weekend rather than the whole week and see if it comes up with a connection changing at probably Athens. Even if it's a little more than the charter the saving on things like the dog sitter might make the numbers better and help you decide if you can go to your brother with a compromise ?

(Why are you paying for your parent's flights ? Surely that's your brother's job)

It's in Rhodes and I have found a flight two days later. More money, but only 4 days out of school and less time for my dog to be looked after as well.

It's been decided that I put it all on my cc as I have 15 month 0% purchases and they pay me back.

We and brother own a house together.

At the moment, all of us live there.

After the wedding, probably in Jan 2016 (when the fixed rate is up on the fiancee's flat), we are thinking of selling and going our separate ways.

Why do you need anything beyond "I'm sorry. I'm not prepared for the girls to miss school then"?

Sounds a weird thing to do anyway. Wedding here, then non-wedding there then honeymoon elsewhere?

Indeed, like I say, think they rushed into it without thinking and now have put deposits down on things and a few people have actually booked to go, so they feel they can't back out.

flippin' 'eck I hope he's going to sit with you throughout the whole party. Much as you are close, and I mean this in the nicest of ways, he will probably spend ten minutes with you at the party.

Personally, I think your opportunity to say about not going has now long gone. If your brother has been talking about it for months before this, and has gone to the trouble of booking accommodation, then things like other costs and taking the children out of school should have been thought about long before this. Even at initial planning without a date, it would have been the time to say about the girls and school time.

Yes, your reasons for not wanting to go are valid. But there surely would have been ample opportunity to say something before this? If I was the brother, I would be annoyed too if you said you could no longer go.

I do agree with this ........ I think the best you are going to be able to do at this point is to compromise and make it a shorter trip without massive fallout from your brother.
